| Memory Testing with AMD Phenom II X4 945
My new build locks up when I run the latest version of Memtest86. Otherwise the system is running fine. I'm not sure that Memtest86 is ready for the latest processors.
I'm looking for either a different memory tester, or somebodies experience that says it should work on my system.
I have the bios set to auto, as I have not figured out the settings for my mobo. It has about 20 different memory timing settings, my memory had only the standard settings. I don't know how to plug those numbers in.
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL8D-4GBHK - Retail Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL8D-4GBHK - Desktop Memory
The Ram is on ASUS recommended memory list.
I have not taken the time to test one stick at a time yet. I think it is a Memtest86 problem, so I'm wanting to try a different program before I do to much digging.
I could run Prime95 under Windows to test for stability.

if you set prime95 to run the blend test, that tests lots of ram.

I will run Prime95 tonight, but I would prefer that it was from a standalone boot disk, so that Windows was not part of the equation. |

Ran Prime 95 for a while, ran Memtest (don't remember the source of the program right now). Ran CPU-Z and determined my timings are all set right by auto. No problems found, but I still need to run it outside of windows to get a through test. The memtest program can be purchased on a bootable cd. I think I will get it when I have some more money.
I ran some other program too that stress tests the system (OOC or something like that).
I'm at work, so I don't have the info about these programs in front of me.
My system seems stable, I just have one device showing up in Device Manager that is not configured right. I will work on that tonight. |

look for memtest86
there are some various memtests out there, and one of them seemed like a newer one with a higher rev number but it wouldn't run, froze up like you describe, looked again, found memtest86 version 1.1 and runs fine.
i'm using the floppy version, but you can also get the .iso version and make a CD for it.
this runs in my lga775 board, with a new C2D, so maybe look for that and try it? |

I know there are two different organizations involved with Memtest86. I will try the other one.
Actually, the version I have has the option in the menu to run an older version. I have not tried that yet. |

I think this might be what you want then. Professionnal - OCCT Website english
you can burn an image to a CD and run it and it will run itself without windows. you need to give the author a nice email though. Its explained on the page I linked. |

thanks for finding it, I was having the same problem with my setup.
I think it's the new architecture as well, DDR3 + AM3 was just too much for Memtest. LOL
