MSI P6N SLI-PLATINUM and E7200 Overclock

Im trying to overclock my Core 2 Wolfdale 2.54ghz E7200 processor, but i cant go over 2.9ghz without having to reset the bios. ive heard people overclocking this same cpu to around 3.8ghz. motherboard is a MSI P6n sli platinum with latest bios. also, msi's overclocking program does not seem to work at all.

any ideas?

What are the settings you've tried?
At 2.9Ghz, are you unlocking or unsyncing your ram so it's not getting overclocked? Most likely, that is part of the problem.
What's your v-core set at? NB? What kind of RAM do you have?

We really need all the info you can give us, it really would help.
