Question
Help with cooling

I finally found a program to moniter my temps on my pc. Speedfan is the only one I can get to work. I have a compaq presario SR5023WM (M2N78-LA, Ivy MOBO). I have upgraded the single core 2.4 Ghz 3800+ cpu to a dual core 2.0 Ghz 3800+. I have installed a GeForce GTS 250 OC. A corsair vx550W power supply. I have a full size case with a front, side and rear fan. I thought the fans that came in my case were questionable so I replaced them all, even my cpu fan and heatsink. Now to the problem. Here are the temps speedfan is giving me, I have a lot of stuff being downloaded, not sure if that taxes a cpu or not.
GPU 55 C
Temp 1 49 C
Temp 2 -128 C
Temp 3 41C
HDO 37 C
Temp 1 16 C
Core 56 C
My core hit 63 C yesterday. I am really new to this but my core and gpu temps seem high from what I have read. One problem is with my temps that high it is showing my fan 1 around 500 rpm. I have seen it run around 800-900 when the core was cooler then it is now. For some reason my mobo doesn't recognize the new cpu cooler, the fan runs so it works but I have to hit F2 on startup. Thanks for reading my story if you made it all the way through. Is there any way to get a more accurate temp reading.

Ok.. If your still running on the motherboard that came in the Compaq PC, you most likely will never get accurate temp read outs. Very few OEM boards actually give accurate information.
Not to mention Speedfan is not the greatest "monitoring" program there is. It's known to give wrong information often. (see -128c temp above)

Now IF the GPU temp is right, that's actually pretty cool for a GPU. They run warmer then CPU's do, but they are designed for it. Now when it starts getting over 90c, that's when I start to worry.
IDK which of those temps would be the 2 cores on your CPU though. As long as they never go over 70c, then your fine.

Now the heatsink RPM's is most likely because of the motherboard having "cool n quiet" features on it. The thing is most OEM boards won't allow for any options in the BIOS to adjust the setting(s). This is why people buy aftermarket boards, so they have all the fine tuning options they desire..

To me, it sounds like you've moved up from the "average user". Maybe it's time you treat yourself to a nice motherboard. It sure seems like that could solve all your problems.

I plan to get a motherboard and new cpu closer to Christmas or right after. A guy at work is really pushing intel on me. I have really liked AMD though. I figured out lots of good stuff since my last post. Its my chassis fan that isn't getting a signal to the motherboard and I figured out how to get my MassCool cooler running. Lowered my core temps 15-20 degrees at a 50% load. I also hooked my rear exhaust fan up to one of the big 4 pin connectors instead of the motherboard chassis header and it is moving way more air than before. I hooked my side exhaust fan up to the motherboard header and it doesn't recognize it but oh well. Everything works, lowered my core about 20 degrees and lowered my gpu about 6 degrees. Thanks for all the help.
