DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) only running at 533Mhz?

Hi guys,

I currently have a computer with the following hardware:
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80570E8500
OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)

On my BIOS it shows my ram as being 1066, but when I look at CPUZ it shows the frequency as 533Mhz.. The computer runs stable, but shouldn't I be able to get it to run at at least 800Mhz, or even 1066 like its supposed to be? Can anyone help with this!? Let me know if there's any other info you need. Thanks in advance!

It's running at its rated speed. The base frequency (which CPUz reports) is 533MHz, but the DDR (double data rate) is 1066MHz. No worries.

Most likely it's dual channel RAM which means that 1066 is split into two 533 channels, one in and one out I think.

I haven't fully kept up on RAM for the last few years but I'm pretty sure that's dual channel.

Those more knowledgeable can respond to confirm my theory or rip it to shreds.

your thinking DDR, Double Data Rate.

DDR SDRAM - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
Double data rate synchronous dynamic random access memory (DDR SDRAM) is a class of memory integrated circuits used in computers. It achieves nearly twice the bandwidth of the preceding single data rate (SDR) SDRAM by double pumping (transferring data on the rising and falling edges of the clock signal) without increasing the clock frequency.
