I just got the 1800+ to replace the Duron 750 I had and my temps are worrying me a little. Under full load it peaks to about 61.5 C and the Box temp is at 35 C. But if I touch the copper on the bottom of the Dragon Orb 3 its not too warm. I mean I don`t think I could touch something that was nearly 62 C for too long.
My Duron 750 was in the 50`s with the Dragon. I am using some heat transfer I got from work a few years ago. They used it when I built Arcam amps.
Is it too high or is it the sensor not reading right. |

it sounds like ur hsf isnt seated all the way. Try taking it of and puttin it back on. Also make sure you dont have too much thermal compound. The orb should have come with a thermal pad on the bottom of it. You DONT want to use the thermal pad along with some thermal greese.

I took the pad off when I took the orb off before. I only put a small drop of compound on then spread it evenly. |

The temp on the heatsink should be similar to the temp on the cpu is the heat is bing transfered correctly.
The thermal compund should be ok(as long as it was not left open),it is oil based. When you put the compond on the heatsink did you apply it in a thin film across the area that the cpu will come in contact with the heatsink? Too much or not enough will cause the heat not to be transferred to the heatsink. Is the surface of the heatsink has to be flat, take a ruler and place it across the bottom of the heatsink and if you can see light underneath it is not flat.
I have a XP1500 overclocked to 1.53 GHZ,
CPU temp is 42% and the case is around 27%,in the basement.I have a Thermeltake 6CU+ cooling fan and heatsink. |

But like I say it doesent feel too hot on the heatsink so could my sensor be not alot of good as any temp on the board is always high. |

If your thermal grease is too thick or your hs isn't seated properly, the hs/fan isn't transfering heat therefore it IS going to be cool to the touch and your cpu is absorbing the heat.
Also check your temp in the BIOS and see if your software is working correctly. |

(FYI - Your XP1800+ cpu puts out about 59 watts under normal use, and about 66 watts at 100% cpu output.)
A properly-seated HS should feel hot... it is drawing heat away from the CPU. Look to make sure you are not hung up on that raised edge along the one side of the cpu socket. Also, as someone else mentioned, you may want to pull off the heat sink and make sure the bottom is absolutely flat. If not, get some emery paper (starting at maybe 320, then 400, then 600 grit... some "extremists" even go to 1200 grit ) and lap your HS flat. Just place the emery papaer on a flat surface (many use a sheet of window pane glass) and have at it. When re-installing, use Arctic Silver II or III.
Also your box temp of 35°C is a bit high... how hot is your room? You may want to improve your case temps (I use a 120mm fan blowing in from front/bottom, and a 120mm fan drawing out from rear/top, in addition to the PS fan and a slot blower adjacent to my video card's GPU).

I got the side off the case at the moment and the temps are, modo 34 c and CPU 51.8 C. I will have a look tomorrow about getting the HS closer to the CPU not sure how yet or I might run the PC for a while, shut down, take off the HS and see how hot it is if its like 55 or 60 or whatever. |

I got the HS seated closer to the CPU now with a little bit of plastic, temp is now 55 c, but my box temp is at 38 as I broke the exhaust fan I had. I might try and get another case with better options for fans as this one has an extra one at the front and thats it. |
