| Fan TOO LOUD.. whats the best fan out there?
I just recently built a new computer and purchesed a Cooler Master HHC-001 for my cpu fan. Its so annoying though that this fan sounds a little less than a hair dryer on low speed. Can someone please give me advice or a fan that is equal or better in quality and either not as loud or no sound at all.
Thanks
P.S. My CPU stays consistent at 39 degrees Celsius. With no overclocking on Athlon 1600XP. |

Hi ..
The best shot is to get an adapter for your HS to use bigger slower fan.
Getting a 60->80mm adapter + 80mm 3200rpm SUNON fan (40CFM) .. will keep your CPU cool and quietly..
BTW, Welcome to TechIMO

The solution that works best if you have the room is to use a 60MM to 80MM Fan Adapter like THIS ONE and choose a nice quiet 80mm fan to mount to it. An 80mm fan (which would turn at a lower speed) will move as air as a 60mm screamer. LINK for pictures.

KEN KUN beat me to the punch (but I was looking for links) BTW: Welcome !

Excuse me....$13+ for a fan adapter?!!? What a royal rip-off! Holy crap!
Go to a dollar store and just get a funnel of approx the right size at the top, then cut it to fit. A smidgen of silicone or hot-glue and you're done.
Geeeeez! I can't get over that. 13 bucks. That should be illegal. |

Don't take it personal. Nothing against you X. I just can't believe a little hunk of plastic, essentially half a funnel, is selling for almost $14. Even if I was completely stupid and wanted to throw money away I'd never want to give it to companies like that. |

Thanks, can would fry's sell this adapter that you are talking about. Also will it fit on my cooler master HHC-001. Do I need more room in my case for this to fit? 1 last thing, how much will the noise decrease by.
Thanks |

Fry's does not sell fan adaptors (I've looked) but another option is to buy a volcano7 from there for under $20 and they work well.
if you are really interested in an adaptor you can get a good one over at www.nexfan.com for $6 (includes fan grill and 2 sets of screws, one for fan and one for the adaptor to mount on your HS)
Note the fan specs on the volcano 7 (pretty impressive)...I have 1 and it is pretty quiet and does a good job of cooling.

another Option if you don't have the room to add a 80mm fan .. you could get the termaltakes vaolcano 5 ... I saw it on newegg for about $4.00 ... can't beat $4.00 for a good heatsink and a pretty quiet fan.... i think it's max level is only about 30db's (witch is about as loud as a whippser at 6 feet)
I have 2 volcano 5's in my box (dual athlon mp's) and it's very quiet.... |
