| Give me TBred opinions
Alright those of you who done WAY too much research on the Thoroughbred core (like me).
What do you think? Am I better of going with a Palomino (which I can still purchase for now) or go ahead for the Thoroughbred for the purposes of OC.
Some of the major references I've been reading, like Anandtech.com, say the OC ability of the 0.13 chip is minimal.
I'm so far still leaning towards a TBred. The chip I'm gonna buy is an XP 2000+
Thanks! |

Reading the new reviews i wasn`t impressed by the new 0.13 micron core ...
It is the same as XP with higher speed .. if you check the reviews you will see that the performance is not superior as many have expected ...
Get the cheaper one .. an XP2000+ will serve you very well till the next major release from AMD ...
Read few reviews about the new horse here and here ..
For OCing info, check here ..

Thanks for the info Ken. I was hoping for a little bit more input, but the stuff you gave me helps a lot in the decision making process. As always you're the man to go if I need outside research. |

What about a .13 micron XP 2000+? They're switching earlier XPs (1700-2100) to .13 micron and they will be cheaper (yes, they are cheaper. Compare the XP 2100+ and 2200+'s launch prices).

| Yes, it should run cooler than the Palomino ... but it will not run as cool as P4 does ... |

edit> the cooler part is what draws me to it when I think about the OC possibilities. I've read some reviews of people being able to get this thing up to almost 2.1 GHz running solid benchmarks.

Thanks for all the posts guys. I think I will still choose the Thoroughbred for my new system. Although performance increases across the board seem to be minimal, there's no price difference (or at least it's damn small) and I'm just drawn to the 0.13 architecture. I mean damn, the thing runs over 1V cooler!
As soon as I get the chip I will do my best to get a stable OC out of it and I will let you know what I come up with! I've already seem some of what people have done to early chips, so I have a good idea of what (and more importantly what not) to do. I'm excited to see exactly what I can get out of this sucker!
Again thank you for the discussion, my decision is solid now.

What does your research disclose regarding price differences between the Palamino and the T-Bred? I'm not real impressed by the .13 architecture "results" as they stand now. I know the feeling - as I'm confident many who might ponder your post do as well - of wanting (and buying ) the "latest and greatest" now. I don't know, but thought you likely do know the extra $$$ you will pay for the small percentage increase in XHz ... and the slightly lower temp.
Thx.
