Ram Suggestions
Hello again TechIMO users.
I'm currently looking for some good DDR2 memory 1066 speed for my ASUS P5K-E WIFI/APP. I need total of 8GB 2GB sticks. I'm looking either into Newegg.ca or Tigerdirect.ca.
My Current System Specs our.
Motherboard:
Asus P5K-E/WIFI APP Socket 775
Processor:
Intel Core2Duo @ 3.16GHZ 6 MB Cache 1333 FSB Socket 775 (E8500 Wolf Dale)
CPU Cooler:
Zalman CNPS9500AT Socket 775
Random Access Memory:
Kingston DDR2 2GB @ 1066 (KVR-1066-D2N7K212G)
Hard Drive Disks:
2X Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB
Raid Fashion:
Raid 0
Graphics Card:
ATI Radeon HD 3450 512 MB HDMI Out (RV620)
Power Supply Unit:
Antec TruePower Quattro 1000 Watt
Case:
Antec Nine Hunread 2
Operating System:
Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3 32 Bit
Also I do understand that 32bit can not read more then 4GB of ram. But I'm gonna upgrade Windows here to a 64 Bit down the road.
Also I have a budget of 250 Canadian dollars. I can go as high as 300 but i do not want to. But if I have to for a better deal or what ever I can.
Thanks again for the helpLast edited by MrSpartan1717; April 24th, 2010 at 03:40 PM.

Kingston Value RAM that's 1066? Wow, that's interesting. What are the timings at that speed? Are you overclocking the E8500? Can you post a screenshot with CPUz Memory and SPD tabs.

Other than just trying to max out the amount of memory the board can take is there a reasoning behind going to 8gbs? Unless you are doing some serious multitasking I'd save the money and just throw another 2gbs in there and call it good.
By just going to 4gbs you could then use the rest of the $250-300 budget and put it into a better GPU or something else that would likely be more beneficial (assuming you are gaming)Last edited by RicheemxX; April 24th, 2010 at 09:13 PM.

Yeah Richee, I was looking for the spec on the existing RAM to recommend a nice 2x2GB set to either add to his existing RAM or just replace it.

Ya I thought about going with 8GB but now I think ill just go with 4GB 2 2GB Sticks. I don't think I will use all that ram. Put the rest money towards other things.

IMO if you already have 2x1gb just thrown another set of 1gb sticks in there. A set of 2x2gb is going to cost you twice as much as a set of 2x1gbs and you are only going to net the same amount of ram unless you plan on running the new 2x2 set with the old ram. But again you aren't going to get much benefit from 6gbs over 4gbs unless you are doing some serious multitasking.
Why spend money you don't need to?? Kinda bass ackwards thinking too me..lol Just throw 2 more 1gbs sticks in there for 4gbs and call it g2g. Save your money for something else that would be a better upgrade and that would have more upgrade-ability later.
JLK - I couldn't find the specs on that ram either, at least not with that serial number
Its not that big a deal and not really important unless the OP is trying to OC and wants better ram for that.

Ya I figure so do you know what would be a good choice to go for off of newegg.ca. As for overclocking I have never overclocked my ram.

If you ran your DDR2-1066 at 1066 you were overclocking.
The JEDEC standard for DDR2 only goes to DDR2-800 and anything beyond that is "overclocked".
It's very possible any memory with similar voltage and timings will work fine at 800 when paired with your value RAM, but can be a challenge to get them all running at 1066.What computer do you have? And please don't say a white one. - Sheldon Cooper

Oh OK. Also here our those screen shots you asked for.
Ya I was just thinking of getting a whole new 4 GB pack (2X 2GB) and selling this RAM. I still have not found any RAM for price and performance. So I still need suggestion on what to buy.
Sorry if the picture our too small to see. I found if you just clicked and Saved Image As... and then open with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer and then just Zoom in about once or twice and you should be able to see it clear as day.
Thanks again MrSpartan1717

Here's a few PC2-6400 sets I'd use. I'm on the fence with the Patriot though. a. It's relatively cheap
It wants 2.2 volts

And here are a few PC2-8500 sets. I have the G.Skill 2x2GB PC2-8000 kit and it is nice stuff. I'd get the 8500 kit if I was buying now though, with the cost being the same.

I've found that PC6400 4-4-4-12 performs just about the same as PC8500 5-5-5-15. Both of those will be slightly faster than you current PC8500 7-8-8-25. Sadly, the days of really cheap DDR2 seem to be over. DDR3 has taken it's place in new systems and, currently, it's overpriced too. What computer do you have?
