    Talking Dell 8400 CPU

     
    I acquired a Dell Dimension 8400. The question is; In device manager on XP Pro it shows the P4 listed twice like my AMD dual core. I tried deleting one of them and windows replaced it. Is it possible that this is a dual core chip? According to dell it is a Prescott 3.4 800 DT. Thanks

    My good friend GOOGLE found the following....

    Type Intel Pentium 4 560 / 3.0 GHz
    Processor Main Features Hyper-Threading Technology
    Dell Dimension 8400 for Home (Pentium 4 3GHz, 512MB, 80GB) - Desktops - CNET Archive
    As I recall - HT cpu's show two just like you're seeing.

    As Mr 'R Jones' stated it has HT which gives the impression of a dual although it is still a single core CPU that has two threads.
