    i7 920 Core temps & loads

    guys,

few days ago my CPU temps gone higher than it's usual(before it peaks only at 38~39 deg. C even at 37++ ambient room temp,it's damn hot here now at manila!), it was hitting about 59 max.

thinking that re-seating my V8 and applying an aftermarket thermal grease (i use Tuniq TX-3) could fix it.
though it lowered my CPU down to 52 deg while i'm typing this post and theres nothing else running (apps or anything) except my browser.

but how come my CPU seems busy though there's nothing running? cause i tried to run the Core temp monitor at idle and found this readings:

please note my CPU loads here, all at 100% at idle?
what's wrong? does it causes my temp spike?

    my rig:
    i7 920 at stock speed
    3 x 1GB corsair xms 3 1333Mhz
    msi x-58 pro E
    hec 550w winpower
    2 x 160GB SATA HDD
    asus dvd lightscribe OD
    win7 ultimate 32bit

    thanks in advance....

Check you temperatures through the BIOS. Other than the programs accuracy I can't really think of much unless your house suddenly got hotter.

    Okay, here's what i did;
Before i restarted my PC to access the BIOS, I checked the temps with Everest and it reads 48 at my CPU.
BIOS reads 33 deg at CPU, that puzzled me. Room temp at 32 Deg.

A lot of people said BIOS temp readings are far different from any software based monitors/Everest etc....
They say because the CPU seems at rest or not doing so much calculations whatsoever when we are at the BIOS page/state, but how come there's a whopping 15 degrees difference between them(Everest)?
Does it takes to cool down to 15 degrees in just a few seconds as i access my BIOS?

    Hmmmm.... false readings at windows?
Same with the 100% 4 Cores load at idle?

CPU's will not cooldown that fast if you immediately restart the computer after using everest.

Open the Task Manager (Ctrl Alt Del, Start Task Manager) to see if the CPU cores are really loaded or if that is just a CoreTemp bug. RealTemp is an alternative app for reading core temperatures.

Click on the Processes tab, then click the "show processes for all users" button. Look for the process(es) using the cycles. It should only be about 5-15% with Vista's normal background junk running.

Well, There's Your Problem, you have Folding@Home running in the background, thats what's causing your CPU usage to be at 100% and temps high.

    This is Folding@Home: Folding@home - Main

We Have a Folding team here at TechIMO also: http://www.techimo.com/forum/distrib...home-faqs.html

    as to shutting it off.

I know the CPU console Client can't be installed as a service, so more than likely you have the System Tray Client running, which means look through your list of Programs in your Start Menu and Find Folding@Home, and Uninstall it, or go to Add/Remove Programs find it in the list and Uninstall it.

Can't remember if a Reboot is necessary, but it couldn't hurt, since its running as a Service most likely, under the SYSTEM name.

access Task Manager and see if its still listed after the reboot.

no problem, credit goes to JLK also for having you post a pic of Task Manager to see what is running as well.

you mean BIOS is more accurate?
BIOS should be accurate as its the actual program that runs the heat sensors in the first place.

    My thanks also to cksboy15 & JLK03F150!
Well i certainl;y don't get that everyday, lol.
