Intel Core i7 920 heat issue help please :D

Hello everyone out there, I am having a serious problem atleast from what I think.
I have bought a lot of stuff to my computer to change it out from the old one, kinda rebuilt it more or less eventho I just wanted a graphic card that was a little rush in... turned out to require me to get new motherboard, bigger computer case and this brilliant new CPU cause I choose a motherboard with that new kind of CPU types I know I was very stupid and newcoming to change to a new graphic card and not knowing this but well. . . not what you wanna hear about now.

To the problem; Intel Core i7 920 HEAT issue

    I am running the following programs to check my heat on my CPU;
    OCCT
    Speedfan 4.40

This is two great working programs from what I can understand.
The temperatures in the beginning when I got it was very high, I repasted it put it back together and it worked fine for around 2 months or so then the heat issues started but only on the cores which I find very wierd.

CPU was showing 40-50C which is quite high for you guys probably.
However the cores was showing up to 100C on most of the cores I can track 8 cores on this CPU.
    I took it out cleaned it up and put it back together and put fresh new paste on it and now its running with 38C on CPU and the cores;
    Core 0: 49C
    Core 1: 46C
    Core 2: 46C
    Core 3: 48C
    Core 4: 49C
    Core 5: 46C
    Core 6: 45C
    Core 7: 49C
These are already some high heats if you ask me when I just started the computer a moment ago. they are jumping up to 10C over these temperatures I mentioned and back down again.

I am wondering how this can be?

    Hardware;
Fan: Standard (I know I shouldnt expect much, but still this is A LOT of heat)
Paste: Arctic Silver Premium High-Density Thermal Compound

If anyone could give me some tips or solutions please post them cause I really need my computer its my living bread, also I would like to keep this topic clear and no immature replys if possible. :•)

    Thanks in advance.

Oh yeah I also got another problem if any of you guys are very wise on SpeedFan and/or OCCT I would like to know why none of them can record the temperatures on my graphic card they are both showing the first two GPU slots and doesnt show the third GPU slot that the graphic card is actually in.

    heats just increased massively >.>

    CPU: 61C
    Core 0: 66C
    Core 1: 65C
    Core 2:61C
    Core 3:67C
    Core 4:67C
    Core 5:66C
    Core 6:62C
    Core 7:69/70C

Running MSN, Skype, WMP and the game World of Warcraft and checking with Speedfan 4.40 atm.

    Welcome TechIMO!

Assuming you are right about the temps being too high, I haven't looked it up, did you put too much thermal paste on?

It is not supposed to be a solid barrier, it is only for the places that don't touch metal to metal.

Google "Intel Core i7 920 temps"
Looks to me 60c loaded is pretty normal.

100C cores are not normal on load if it gets to 110C computer overheats.
and I havnt given it too much paste nope

Um, where in your post dose it say 100c and 110c.
If you keep changing tu rules we can't play your game.
All the temps you posted, where within normal range, for stock cooling.

I see it say 100, 100 is the max temp, for that CPU.

What load is it running at?

I,m wondering what it is really tracking?
that CPU only has 4 physical cores, and 8 thread.

What is the room temperature, and the case temperature.

I am not sure how hot is is inside the case but its normally around 25-35C if I should go for what I think when I open the case to feel the air.
However the room temperature is normally very low around 15-25C

And I am not running on Full load on the cpu I am only on high performance, theres a program followed with the cpu which I can set to 3 states 2 of them being energy savings and then high performance and turbo, I dont dare to set it on turbo however I dont need it either.

I don't understand why it worked for a while, what changed?

Your case temp will be with your other temps, it will be something like motherboard, or chip temp

If it is really 25c to 35c, it is too high, with proper case cooling, it should be the same or very close to room temp.

You can do a quick test with a window fan, blowing into the open case.

windowfan? u mean I should try open the case and let it get cooled that way?

tested that before, even tried to wave it with the side plate to get some air running around but doesnt help
anyways its running fine right now, I've just been thinking maybe its because its burning up the paste? would maybe make it less effective ye?

I know but these are After the repaste but thanks and yeah I guess its normal for now but I think its gonna go up again, got a feeling about it. and I would like to know what solutions I should be having in my hand whenever it happens again cause I cant keep repasting it adventually I would get tired of it or do a mistake and maybe get paste on the CPU who knows. . . all those random mistakes people can do.

unless something is drastically set up wrong, the paste shouldn't be burning... if it was, your CPU should be incinerating right along side it.

what are you putting paste on, if your worried about getting paste on the CPU?

all you do is apply a thin layer to the heat cap ON the CPU, then apply the heatsink and secure it properly.

as to it happening again, if it is applied properly, and heatsink is secured properly, fans are working and airflow to cooler is set right, as well as ambient heat is vented out of case properly, then it shouldn't be happening again.

somewhere between 100 and 115C is the official MAX temps the 920 can handle, though its recommended not to go above 85C, otherwise the CPU and system is designed to shut down after that, though most motherboards, with their Overclocking options and features, tend to disable that feature.

right now for sh*ts and giggles, I installed speed fan, though I never use it because in past it never reported proper temps anyways, but running Folding@Home using the SMP client (full load on CPU, all 4 cores, 8 threads), plus Firefox and usual background stuff like Anti virus, and my temps are only hitting 69 to 70C max.

though I'm running an After market CPU Cooler, and have plenty of airflow in and out of my case, and using a top quality Thermal paste, but still, I have seen this rig hit 85C and slightly higher before on full load, running the CPU SMP client for F@H, as well as 2 GPU clients along side it (ambient heat in the case, builds up, as well as does the metal frame of the case from the GPU's)

Also, WoW is a very CPU intensive game, so if your running that, that will bring your CPU load up quite a ways as well.
