AMD Phenom II X4 940 Heat Problem

I've been looking over these forums and have seen people with the same problems I am having, but most of them have air coolers, as where I have a water cooler. So my problem is that I have a Corsair H50 Hydro series cooler and my CPU idling around 57 degrees, that is way to high for water cooling, especially since I redid the thermal paster numerous times, took off AMD Quiet cool, and all other forms of fan speed throttling. I also lowered the processor voltage to 1.25 volts. Before having this hydro series cooler I had a Zalman cooler...nothing special just typical amd socket cooler, that made my CPU idle around 40 degrees and about 50 underload. I have no idea what my problem is but when I first installed this cooler it was around 40 as well. So is there a way for me to check if the cooler is functioning, because obviously it isn't functioning properly or I have a broken temp sensor, but the cooler seems to be the more likely culprit. So if anyone has any idea please let me know. Thanks in advanced!

is the fan for the radiator oriented in the right direction? blowing air in to the case, instead of out, if thats the case, then it could be a build up of ambient heat in the case, that is causing the high temps, make sure its exhausting air out of the case.

have you tried adding a 2nd 120mm fan to the radiator, as from what I remember the recommended setup for the H50 is a push pull design, Radiator sandwiched between 2 fans.

also check to make sure the waterblock/pump has not loosened from the socket, a slight gap between the cooler and the CPU can cause a heat build up as well.


as to checking if the H50 is working properly, that I'm not sure about, its possible it isn't pumping the fluid fast enough to dissipate the heat properly, which I would imagine could cause greater heat build up, but as to how to check that, I'm not sure.

Thank you for replying to my post. Yes I have the Push-Pull configuration. The orientation of the fans is just as corsair suggests, the fan that is behind the radiator blows into it and the one in front pulls the air through it. I have no idea why this is happening. I will take the computer apart tonight and make sure the pump is sitting correctly. But anyway thanks for the response!
