cpu z says 800 MHz and loud fan
after searching a little i found out this has something to with AMD's "clear & quiet" or some power saving feature. it's AMD phenom II X4 945 3.0 GHz processor for those who haven't seen my other posts about building a new system. I also heard something about adjusting the fan settings because it gets loud, which seems to be true because I've noticed that already and haven't even tried to run a game on it.
anyway, I looked over the bios quite a few times but I don't have the slightest idea what to mess with, and don't want to screw anything up. can anyone help on the specific options I need to change, or should I just leave everything alone?

on the fan thing, on second thought it really doesn't bother me. I dont know why it starts really blowing on occasion, but it only happened a few times and I didn't notice anything when I tried a couple games today.
but any help on the other issue would be great, I'm assuming that's nothing I have to bother with either, though?
heard about...argh, can't remember the name of, I deleted after running...anyway the program name was 'something95' and in that one my cpu read 2999-3000 Ghz so that would mean my issue is only a power saver and doesn't need to be disabled?

AMD Cool & Quiet...
I personally disable that when possible.... Its really only for Non-Power users, HTPC's, and small form factor situations...

exactly, when the cpu usage isn't demanding, it throttles down the cpu speed, for games, or as your one example, Prime95 (test your CPU's performance, and get it to run at full load), it runs the CPU at full speed.
Its also called "Cool'n'Quiet", disabling it isn't necessary, but some who like to OC like to disable it.
Its basically the same as Intels old Speedstep, and I forget what its called, but their new form of it.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

I'll probably look into shutting that off anyway..I tried to be meticulous in lookin over the bios, but saw nothing about cool & quiet or power saving, maybe the link JPMiller posted will tell me something, or a simple 'disable cool & quiet' search..
exactly, prime95..couldn't remember it..anyway thanks again fellas

whats the motherboard? bios options vary from board to board, as well as where options are and what its called.

i'm not familiar with the board (bios anyways), but figured it'd be nice to have the info incase someone else on here has the same or similar one and might know where the options are for it.

thanks, I'm definitely bookmarking that ultimate bios guide.
I guess changing the processor usage in power options did the trick already, cpu z now always shows 3000 MHz for core speed.
