my AMD phenom II x4 945 is loud
am i the only one who is driven nuts by the loudness of this processor fan? i'm just curious if anyone else had this problem, and what particular replacement fan or other method fixed it. i hate playing games because it gets so loud, i'd rather have it run very quiet all the time like any of the 'PC-in-a-box' you'd pick up at best buy or something do. maybe a problem since i cheaped out a bit on my motherboard and it only has plug for one case fan, so i only have the one that came with my gamma NZXT.
bottom line, what can I do to get my computer running super quiet? im looking for some suggestions for a new processor fan, would that fix the problem or would I have to replace my 120mm rear fan with something better too?

well it depends on what is making the noise. try cleaning your fans of dust to start with. how much are you looking to spend on the cooler? which version of the 945 do you have? the 125W version or the 95W version? If its only to keep it quiet, the cost does not have to go very high. especially if you are using the 95W version, the first will do (its $15 but is comparable/slightly better than the stock from what I see).

What makes you think its the CPU and not the GPU...? Iv'e never heard a CPU fan loud enough to be considered an irritation.

Really I've had several, not on anything newer but on some older systems. At the time I'd say they really weren't loud enough to be irritating however that was before I found out what I quiet system should sound like. Boot one of them up now and yeah its annoying

opened the computer up, i put my ear right up to the GPU and i can't hear anything coming from it, that thing is unbelievably quiet. maybe its just me annoyed by the sound, but it really starts whining once a game turned on and its as if the computer can't handle it and is going to blow up, lol. obviously not gonna happen, but extremely irritating, nonetheless.
its the 95W version, i didn't know there was another 945 @ 125W. thanks for the recommendations, i think at the very least i'll go with the $30 one, figure something like that should make a big difference.

Though the OP's fan is stock...

tend to run low on memory from time to time. I allowed an 8 gig RB drive. (formatted as exFAT)
