Athlon 64 3200+ 1.0MHz???
I have an HP laptop pc that's about 5 or 6 years old and in dxdiag it lists the processor as I wrote above. Are there Athlon 64 3200's with a processor speed of 1.0 MHz? It sounds so slow. I question this because, coincidentally, I have an older home-built pc with the same processor and it's shows a speed of 2.0 MHz.
Thanks

It sounds like AMD's 'Cool & Quiet' is reducing the processor speed. From what I remember, you are correct in expcecting it to be at 2Ghz. You may be able to disable Cool & Quiet in your laptops BIOS, if you can access it.

Wow! That's great news. I'll do some research and see what I come up with. The laptop is used for very basic stuff---email and internet access but I feel like it should be much faster.

Well, it is an old processor, so don't expect too much out of it!
Even my 4yo old Core2Duo laptop runs slower on the internet than my almost brand new desktop.

Problem solved! Went into 'Power Options' in Control Panel and changed 'Power Scheme' to 'Desktop/Home Office' from 'Laptop' and now it's showing as '2.0 MHz'. It appears to be working a little faster.
