    Processors

Alright guy's i am back for some more help!

I've got a new computer and i do know it's not the best but as far as the GPU, RAM and other random hardware it's much better then what i had to start with. But here's what i am interested to know, which one of these processors are better?

Old Computer - AMD Athlon LE-1640
    • Operating speed: Up to 2.7 GHz
    • Number of cores: 1
    • Socket: AM2
    • Bus speed: 2000 MT/s

    Processor upgrade information
    Socket type: AM2
Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
    • Athlon 64 up to 3800+
    • Athlon 64 X2 with Dual Core technology up to 4800+ (up to 65 watt TDP)
    • Sempron - All

    New computer - Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 CPU 6300 @1.86 GHz 1.87GHz

Now if the old one is better then the new one, can i replace the new one with the old one?

You asked this question before. The newer core 2 duo will dance circles around the athlon.

The core 2 duo is much better.

Are you asking if an AMD CPU can be swapped with an Intel CPU?
I'd rather have a lower speed dual core than a higher speed single core

Aaron i don't remember asking this before seeing how this is the first topic i asked regarding the computer i JUST got. Seeing how i knew nothing about this new comp or that it even exsisted it doubt i asked before, so if i did redirect me to it.

JP i was indeed asking which would be better/faster and if the single core WAS faster is it swappable with the current dual core, as far as pin's go.

Hmmm... Well not too long ago there was a thread asking about two computers and which was faster with these or similer CPU's....

They are different sockets so you will not be able to swap CPU's....

    Short term Goldfish Memory...?

But I think what you were asking is if the newer Core 2 Duo System you got is faster or slower than the old AMD Single Core CPU.

the Single Core CPU has a faster Clock speed.

But the Core 2 Duo has TWO CPU cores running an 1.87GHz each.

thus its going to process more data than the AMD would,

Even if the Core 2 was a Single core, it would still probably best the AMD at same clock speeds.

the Core 2 Duo (though one of the lowest end models of the series), is the Clear winner and better performer, at least as far as the CPU is concerned.

Without question the Core 2 Duo is a faster processor than your old Athlon LE-1640. Unfortunatly if you only have the processor you can't just put it into your old computer. Intel processors won't go into an AMD motherboard.

On that note, AMD motherboards allow a pretty huge range of upgrades. If you can find the exact model number of your motherboard, it might even have a firmware upgrade to allow AM2+ or AM3 processors to be placed in it ($90 Athlon II X3 455 or a $100 Athlon II X4 635 would walk circles around that core 2 duo)
