If you're running XP - another gig probably won't make much difference usless you're doing some real serious work on the machine...
Memory: 512MB DDR SDRAM (expandable to 3GB)
DIMM Slots: 4 (2 open)
Odds are you are currently using 4 x 512 meg sticks... you'd have to take two out and replace them with two 1 gig sticks.
This free app will tell you much more about your current ram sticks so that you can try to get the exact same type:

Win7 isn't that much of a pig. Though it is more than XP.
I have it running (x86 ultimate) on my netbook with an Intel Atom N260 and 2GB RAM. It idles at 1-7% CPU and about 550MB RAM used with full Aero glass desktop. I have done a few minor tweaks (like ditching the sidebar and other useless services).

As it relates to the OP's post however it would in no way be beneficial for him to upgrade as he's not going to see a 'speed boost' on an old p4 machine.
If you are seeing slow downs, or performance issues you might check for viruses, malware ect. Do a defrag, remove any un-needed startup entries (programs that run at start-up that you don't need) run a registry cleaner like CCleaner or maybe even do a fresh install.

at least you have some space between them so the primary card has some air flow to it. 75-80C is about average for temps on those, my 560 Ti's do about the same in a lot of games, some games run...
Temps too high? ( GTX 580s )
