Do I need to re-install for this?
Hey guys,
I was wondering.......atm I have an Asus board with 1 Opteron 4130 on it and some other stuff ofcourse, but when I change that 1 x 4130 to 2 x 42xx (Valencia) will I need to reinstall to make use of the new cpu architecture, or should it be fine??
Thanks for any info.

What OS? I remember some people have to update HAL when switching from a dual to a quad on WinXP. I suppose something like Server 2008 would just see it, but not so sure about Win7.

Currently I have a freshly installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64, but will add a Highpoint rocketraid card somewhere this month or january, and at the same time the new cpus, providing they will be available at that time.
That controller is SATA600, since my mobo doesn't have that, and will host 2 64GB Crucial M4 drives on raid 0, so I will do a reinstall anyway I suppose, so maybe best to wait with reinstall till I have all the parts I guess.
But ya know how it is.....if ya get a new toy....ya wanna play with it, so if the cpus arrive sooner then the rest, I just gotta use em. LOL2 x Opteron 4280 2.8Ghz, Asus KCMA-D8, 32GB DDR3 1600, Asus 6950 DCII 1GB 2 x M4 64GB SATA600, Caviar Black 640GB, Seagate 1TB, 27"syncmaster

Well it won't hurt to plug them in and see what happens. I know what you mean about waiting!

I have a couple 60GB Adata SATA II SSDs in RAID0. Load times are crazy fast. Gotta love the new drives. Waiting for prices to drop so I can get a good 120-160GB SSD for my notebook. That will turn my low end lappy into an upper mid-range.
