Please give us the entire system specs. Is this a prebuilt machine from a manufacture?

If you are keeping the motherboard, you are gonna be limited to what CPU you can upgrade too.

The motherboard has an AGP slot and the video card has

    AGP 8x 0.8V DC
    AGP 4x 1.5V DC
    You should be fine

so with that video card and a new 2 GHz processor all i would need would be quite a bit of ram and i should be able to run league of legend quite well?

The recommended video card requirements, are GForce 8800, and the slowest one that I know of scores 858, in pass mark
PassMark Software - Video Card Benchmarks - High End Video Cards

Your Radeon 9550 only scores 105, so unless there is a plane 8800, that I'm missing, you have 1/8 the card, you need for quite well.

    edit
GTS is the slowest one I could find.

Unless you get the parts from very cheap, to free, that computer is not worth upgrading.

No you cant buy multiple video cards. Your computer is really old, AGP slots are really old all manufactures have moved to PCI-X

    I just noticed $78, for a 9550???????????

    What an incredible rip off.
This is a good example, why upgrading something that old is a waste of money, unless you get the parts, for practically free.

If you had a newer board, for $79 this would be close to a 8800GTS, and would play "quite well".
    Newegg.com - XFX HD-657X-CNF2 Radeon HD 6570 2GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card

I'll get some links, but the problem with this upgrade, is bigger that we have said so far.

What are the specs on you power supply. Brand, Model, and 12volt amps.

Any card that would be the equivalent of a 8800, will most likely need a new power supply to run it.

This upgrade, after a video card, memory, CPU, and power supply, is almost A new computer, but with obsolete parts.

Saving for the few more parts you need, will get you a computer at least 20 times faster, and could play many games quite well.

Bottom line, the electronics in your computer are very worn, and on the last leg of their useability.
Any upgrade you do is most likely going to be wasted in a short period of time.
Also, its common for issues that were only minor with the previous setup, to be enhanced by more power draw, and increased heat and stress due to the upgrades, to make borderline issues suddenly become hardware failure.
DO NOT waste money making minor upgrades that will only make a minor difference anyway.
Either replace the computer as a whole or replace everything but the case, and maybe the hard drive and optical drive.
If you dont have someone to build it for you or you dont want to do it your self, you may consider a midrange dell or other vendor for a base system that could be upgraded...

I only searched New Egg, for AGP cards, and as far as I can see the only 2 cards, that are even close to the requirements are the HD 4650 @522 Passmark, and the HD4670@582 Passmark.

THEY BOTH REQUIRE A 400watt power supply.
    4650
    Newegg.com - HIS H465F1GHA Radeon HD 4650 1GB 128-bit DDR3 AGP 4X/8X HDCP Ready Video Card
    4670
    Newegg.com - HIS IceQ H467QS1GHA Radeon HD 4670 1GB 128-bit DDR3 AGP 4X/8X HDCP Ready Video Card

If you can find one a HD3850 scores in the 700s, but needs a 450watt power supply.

I have one, and my AMD Barton@3000+ holds it back.

AGP has been dead for several years, and so is DDR memory, so you pay a premium for it.

Clarification for Original Poster, GZ did not mean PCI-X, its PCI Express, PCI-X is an actual slot, based on PCI, PCI Express is not based on PCI at all, aside from name and its a slot design.

agreed, it is a total waste of money.

Even if they get a 2Ghz CPU, and AMD's of that generation never reached 3Ghz if I remember right, it may be enough for minimum game requirements, but won't run all that well IMO.

hell, even a cheap modern day PC with onboard video, such as an Onboard Radeon 3000 or 4000 series GPU will be as good if not better than the old Radeon 9550 was.

the 9550, though a 9500 series, was not related to the more powerful 9500/9700 series cards, and had more in common with the 9600 series. Which was still decent for its time, but the 9550 was lesser in performance. even the plain jane 9500 and 9500 Pro that could be modded into a 9700/9700 Pro, was more powerful than the 9550 and 9600 cards.

Not sure what stroyal was commenting on the price for, as the OP never mentioned what they paid for it, the link in their posts is part of the sites keyword based advertising in postings.

but even with that said, this system is long past its prime and should be put down, at least for more modern gaming needs.

for relatively cheap, and not even that current anymore, but still fairly newer... and more than capable of running that game.

If you replaced the CPU, Motherboard, RAM, Video Card and Power supply with this instead:

    Newegg.com - AMD Athlon II X3 455 Rana 3.3GHz Socket AM3 95W Triple-Core Desktop Processor ADX455WFGMBOX

    Newegg.com - Foxconn A88GMV AM3 AMD 880G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

    Newegg.com - Rendition by Crucial 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory Model RM51264BA1339

    Newegg.com - DIAMOND A4870PE5512 Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

    Newegg.com - Antec NEO ECO 520C 520W Continuous Power ATX12V v2.3 / EPS12V 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply

just use the existing case, Hard drive, DVD/CD drive, and keyboard, mouse and speakers/Monitor, and you'd be able to run most modern games at moderate settings very well, some games nearly max out on that hardware...

Grand Total: $251.95 All of it is free shipping as well, if your in the US lower 48 states.
