    Asus CM1730-01 Rebuild

So I recently purchased a Asus Essentio CM1730-01 desktop from Best Buy. I wasn't looking to break the bank so I figured I would start out with a new easy base level desktop to start working with.

Now I have owned a Dell PC for the past 13 years, and to be honest, anything is better at the moment.

My question for you all is what processor would be compatible with my system that would give me the maximum amount of power. I do plan on replacing pretty much everything in the system (PSU, GPU, RAM, Cooling Components), but for right now, a CPU is really the main thing I am looking to replace, since it is the number one thing that would be slowing your computer down when it comes to doing small 15 minute tasks.

If you're willing to be an over achiever, you could put what you would all throw into this machine in all to make it a bit faster for casual gaming and what to keep. Nothing to intense.

To be completely honest, I am really thinking of taking this PC back to Best buy and shoving it up there booty holes until they understand the amount of money it would take to build a better PC for 600$, but I have no knowledge of building PCs from scratch and sorta need some help. Anyways, gimme feedback.

So are you building/adding to this computer or building something new or keeping both. You've got two threads going and it will create some confusion if you aren't clear on that.

    Building a new computer

If you are at the point of wanting to swap all those parts already you'd be money ahead just returning the system and starting fresh with a custom build. Otherwise you are really throwing out any savings you might have gained by buying a pre-built system and you've limited your options.

edit: just to answer some of the general questions. It looks like that ASUS is AMD based. Being a new rig it likely supports the newer Socket AM3+ chips from AMD so you'd buy whatever fits within the balance of your budget.

CPU speed is important but it needs to be balanced to your needs and your system. Telling us 15min tasks doesn't say much. If you are using this rig just for email and the internet adding in a top notch CPU isn't going to make a ton of difference. If you are using it for gaming and there is a budget consideration then adding in a better GPU and slightly slower CPU might be in order. Its really all about creating a good balance based on workload, performance considerations and budgeting.

I put together a pretty kick ass Build list in their other thread, for around their $1500 budget range they listed, has everything but Mouse, Keyboard, Speakers.

If this thread is related to that one, then I'd return the PC to best buy if you can, and go with what I listed in the other thread, you'd be better off.

Well, the reason why I bought the computer in the first place was to give myself a bench mark of how much I could spend on a computer and have it run pretty much the same speed as my dads 5 year old laptop. I was planning on taking it back to Best Buy regardless, I have just never been able to piece hardware together. Kinda wanted to see what people thought of me buying it. Thanks for the advice Shyguy. You've always been good at responding in a timely fashion.
