DRAM prices, expected to rise
I mentioned this in another post.
Here is another article.

And thats why I jumped and bought four, 4gb sticks of DDR3 1866 for roughly $100. 16gb of almost 2ghz memoy will be good enough for a few years to come.
Main PC: AMD FX-8350 / 16gb DDR3 1600 / AMD 7970GE 1200mhz Core & 1600mhz Mem / Win7 Pro 64bit
File Server: AMD Opteron 180 / 3gb DDR400 / Nvidia 6200 / WinXP Home 32bit / Lubuntu 12.10
Laptop: HP-Compaq nc8430/ Intel CoreDuo T2400 / 2gb DDR2 667/ Ati x1600 / WinXP Pro 32bit

They forgot to mention that toshiba just announced they are cutting product to drive prices higher...the memory market is a show in price fixing at its best! They over produce to drive costs down to drive adoption rates up then when demand drops they artificially raise prices again. Soak up some profits, wait a bit, and start the cycle again

Kinda like how China manipulates its currency.

I don't understand how Toshiba can effectively do that. Aren't there other manufacturers out there to meet market demand? Or did they just cut production because there's a glut of chips out there? To manipulate prices, the supply and demand margin would have to be very tight, otherwise, they would have to essentially have a cartel with enough chip manufacturers to reduce the supply below demand and charge enough to make up for the losses in sales.
Either way, i can't imagine prices will raise that dramatically. It's not exactly a limited or essential resource, so people can and will do without it if it gets too expensive, which will drive an increase in production from manufacturers chasing the higher margin, which should level prices out...
But it's a good thing to know for people in the market for memory...Usually, terrible things that are done with the excuse that progress requires them are not really progress, but just terrible things.

Good thing I ordered 2 x 4gig 1600s. I should be covered for quite a while.

When I build my new computer I plan on installing 64 GB of RAM to create a RAM disk for programs. Mostly Flight simulator which I have measured it to be about 25 GB in size. I have over a thousand airlines.

problem with RAM Drives is that once you shut the PC off the drive goes bye bye, until you boot up again, and it recreates the drive, and loads it from a ghost copy off the main drives, which could take a while loading before you can even use it directly from the RAM Drive.
Sucks for people running their PC and shut down when not in use, but if you leave your PC on all the time, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
Which is why I like those PCIe SSD cards that use DRAM modules instead, or the OCZ Revo SSD's... they have a built in back up battery that allows the memory to be retained in the DRAM modules, or the SSD Flash chips.
I remember before most modern SSD's hit the market, Gigabyte had a PCIe DRAM card that uses DDR2 modules in it, and had a built on battery to maintain the data on the card, in events of reboots or short term powered down systems.
but it was damn near impossible to find in the US to buy.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Naa, I plan on using what I'm using now for the RAM drive, Softperfect's RAM drive. I will be creating separate RAM drive files for each game I have so the drive letter will remain B:\ Since I plan on buying a new SSD to take advantage of SATA 3 it shouldn't take long at all to load the game into RAM. Flight Simulator will be a huge improvement with a RAM drive as all the terrain takes a long time to load. And I like to fly the F-22 Raptor at mach 2 so going that fast at low altitudes the terrain has to load fast.

Stupid me bought one Gigabyte's i-RAM storage device
It was back n the day when a one gig stick of ram cost 100 bucks
It was a cute device...but I was always needing to borrow some of the ram sticks for other deals.. Darn thing ended up dieing all by itself. Hugh chunck of something popped off the board.

Oh, you bought the DDR model? That was when DDR2 was in its prime and DDR prices were through the roof.
I remember there was a version that used DDR2 Sticks, can't remember if it was Gigabyte or not, I know there was at least 2 or 3 of these devices floating around on the Asian, US and European markets, as I remember seeing at least 2, and Gigabytes was one.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

you mean something like this? http://youtu.be/e5L_jjrs5Yo
not exactly Mach 2, but easily Mach 1, can only seem to do 2 in a dive, limits to the game/sim, and even with the map at over 20KM square, its not enough room to really get up in speed, though have been able to travel 20+ KM up before in that same aircraft, damn thing just keeps going and going and going.
But its fun doing Mach 1, and then unleashing a missile that already travels at Mach 4 or more, slam into an enemy tank and take it out, all that kinetic energy
this was in a LAN server I set up to play the map, so it was directly off my PC and no internet connection, so its a lot of lag, in some parts, just from the amount of objects, detail and other stuff in the game, and terrain detail was set at a low "2" setting, which isn't very high, but far far higher than a lowly 1 setting. Frame rates went from 50-60fps in the beginning of that map, to a meager 20-30 when I bumped it from 1 to 2, before I hit the record button for FRAPS.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

The terrain looks a lot nicer than FS2004's default. I have some impressive add-on stuff though. FSX is better, but I have too much invested into FS2004 to use FSX. I built Area 51 and still not complete. Although FSX has a cheesy version of Area 51. I like mine better as it's more authentic. I upgraded a lot of the avionics in my F-22. Things like weather radar, Sandel ST3400 and a DU. I had a YouTube video of me flying in the F-22, but YouTube only approves the video in certain countries as the video has a song by Pink Floyd and I can't remember the name at the moment.

I'll have to upload a Area 51 video.

Okay Shy. I created a couple videos of me flying the F-22 into Area 51. I don't know why, but I can't upload a video that is more than 10 minutes long to YouTube. Everyone else can upload a 10 hour freaking video!
This is in two parts. The first is me flying and landing into my created Area 51 which still needs work. The secoind is me showing Area 51. I used the slew so that I can go to different places without starting the engines again.
