    DDR3 Single Channel?

    Hi,

Just checking out an office PC which has two bars of DDR3 memory but being reported in CPU-Z as single channel. Is that OK? The machine seems to be underperforming - it's a Core i5.

    Thoughts?

Does the SPD tab in CPU-Z report the memory as different manufacturer, part number and different timings?

There is also the possibility that the memory needs to be in certain slots to work as dual channel. I don't think dual channel will make so much difference that you would really notice a Core i5 machine underperforming because it was off. Your problem possibly lies somewhere else.

agreed, there would be little to no difference, at least perceptible, with or with out Dual Channel, especially on a newer Core i5 series CPU (even 1st Gen Core i5).

Some sophisticated Motherboards can block a Ram which isn't compatible with its frequency speed ...
