Well the board specs tell you your limits though I suspect you might be able to choose from a few others so long as they are socket 775:

Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
    • Core 2 Duo E7xxx (Wolfdale-M)
    • Core 2 Duo E4x00 (Conroe)
    • Pentium E2xxx series (Conroe)
    • Celeron Dual Core E1xx0 series (Conroe)
    • Celeron 4xx series (Conroe)

The problem you are facing is that you are upgrading a PC that is several generations old. Just adding in a bit faster CPU would be like putting it on life support. You might squeeze a bit more out of it, but in the end your going to have to bite the bullet, so to speak.

When you say its getting slow, slow for what type of use?
Limited budget doesn't help? How much are we talking?
Since they are a discontinued item Socket 775 chips can be difficult to find!

edit: I'm assuming you are from the UK? I just looked at the few retailers I know and none of them have any chips listed. So you might be limited to trying to buy a used chip if you did want to try the upgrade.

That is always one of the biggest problems when dealing with a bit older tech. Often it cost more to upgrade than the upgrade is worth. For the same price or even a bit more you might be able to put together a newer low end combo that would out perform what you'd end up upgrading to.

That would probably be the better option really in the end i might just save up and get a new motherboard then i won't have to worry about that or a graphics card finding problem as well which i am having trouble with to.

Sell it, and put that towards a new tower, your already and the end-of-life for that PC, no point in throwing away money.

Agreed with Rich and JP. For not Too much you can get a more modern Low end setup that would outperform your current systems Top of the line upgrade route.

obviously your budget right now won't be able to afford one, but for 50 GBP you can get a decent lower end Intel Pentium Dual Core on the Socket 1155 platform that will beat any of the CPU's you could max your system out on now. Even compete with some of the Quad cores that you can't upgrade to with your current system.

or You could opt for some of AMD's Llanos CPU's that would compare similarly to Intel Core 2 era Quad cores, but pack a low budget range AMD Radeon chip on the CPU for graphics as well.

though, at least make sure you get a motherboard platform that will have some sort of longevity in it, Socket 1155 Z75/Z77 Chipset, or at the least B75 Chipset. or for AMD's Socket AM3, or Socket FM1 (though the latter is hard to say how long that platform will last, since the new AM3 CPU's coming out in a month or two, will be incorporating some of the benefits that FM1 CPU's have, along with typical Desktop performance CPU's of Socket AM3).

Some examples of the various CPU's..

    Socket FM1 AMD's:

    Dual Core: AMD A4-3400 2.70GHz (Socket FM1) APU Processor (AD3400OJGXBOX) [AD3400OJGXBOX]

    Quad Core: AMD A6-3670K 2.70GHz (Socket FM1) APU Processor (AD3670WNGXBOX) **£10 Cashback** [AD3670WNGXBOX]

    Intel Socket 1155:

Dual Core: Intel Pentium G620 2.60GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail [BX80623G620]

    Intel Pentium G840 2.80GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail [BX80623G840]

    Intel Pentium G850 2.90GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail [BX80623G850]

    Motherboards:

    Intel B75: Components » Motherboards - Intel » Intel 1155 (B75 Chipset) - Overclockers UK

    Intel Z77: Components » Motherboards - Intel » Intel 1155 (Z77 Chipset) - Overclockers UK

Intel Z68 (still a viable choice if cheaper than Z77 boards): Components » Motherboards - Intel » Intel 1155 (Z68 Chipset) - Overclockers UK

    AMD Socket FM1: Components » Motherboards - AMD » AMD FM1 (A75/A55 Chipset) - Overclockers UK

    AMD Socket AM3+ 900 Series Chipset): Components » Motherboards - AMD » AMD AM3/AM3+ (900 Chipset) - Overclockers UK

Just some ideas of what a newer decent CPU and Board would cost, not including RAM, and other components.
