what processor can i put in my desktop?
Hello guys! i hope you all are fine!
I Have this old gateway DX4200-UB001A. it had an AMD 9550 Quad Core processor and 6 gb ram. turns out that somebody removed the processor and couldn't get it back inside. I wanna replace it for another one, but i don't have $100 for it. trust me, there's nothing wrong with the computer. is there a processor around $50 or $30 that can fit in the slot? thank you for your time!!! you guys are awesome!

there are, but its a matter of finding one, since they aren't made anymore, and haven't been in years.
Should be able to stuff just about any AMD Socket AM2+ Processor into the PC if it had an AMD Phenom 9550 already in it, the 9550 was near top of the line for AM2+ socket CPU's and anything below that, AM2+ or even AM2 should fit in it.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Tiger Direct has a $41 X3 AM2+ CPU in stock.
AMD Phenom X3 8250e Triple Core Processor HD8250ODJ3BGH - 1.9GHz, Socket AM2+, 1.5MB L2, 2MB L3 Cache, OEM at TigerDirect.com
I'm curious why the 9550 "couldn't get it back inside". Did the pins get bent? What computer do you have? And please don't say a white one. - Sheldon Cooper

was probably something like this:

the AMD Socket AM2 and above are notorious for that happening.
The plastic Frame for the heatsink holds the square heatsink in so you can really jiggle it to loosen it if the paste is really sticky, and the bar to fasten down the CPU pins in socket is under the heatsink.
So sometimes the only thing to do is pull on the heatsink, and if the paste is sticky enough it will hold on to the CPU and pull it out of the secured socket.
I needed to heat up my heatsink with a hair dryer for 5 minutes or so to get my CPU off that heatsink back then.
after that, when dealing with AMD CPU's using the plastic frame for mounting the heatsink (unless it was a heatsink design requiring the removal of the frame and bolting down to motherboard), I made it a point to heat up the CPU or Heatsink first before attempting to pull the heatsink off the CPU.
I also bent some pins on mine, but was able to bend them some what back into shape with a flathead screw driver on my keychain swiss army knife.
Didn't have any Mechanical Pencils near by to use.
but the CPU required a little jiggling around to get it to slide back into the socket again, fasten the bar down on it, and put a new heatsink on, and it worked perfectly fine, with no issues.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Thank you, I try to do my best with hand lotions, and pedicures, and all that stuff, LOL

(no, not really, I just don't have really worked hands, and for being 36 my skin is still "young and supple" with few wrinkles, probably because I'm not out in the sun all day as some are, one of my buddies from High School, though put on a few pounds still has the "baby face" looks he had back when I first met him in 6th grade, his Brother a year younger than him, though, definitely more "weathered" Skin, but then his brother is a Carpenter and has a construction business, where as "Brent" does drafting Design indoors most of the time, but both are avid outdoors hunters, and fishers)i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green
