More than 4GB RAM for Asus A8N32-SLi Delux MB?

    Hi,

I've not been on here in years, I used to be heavily into hardware and over-clocking but I'm now way out of the loop.

My machine which has 4x Corsair 1GB sticks of DDR400 PC3200, but now, as I'm a programmer and use a lot of memory heavy software, I need more, as it's constantly hammering my 4x 80GB raid 0 drives for swap space.

I seen on eBay I can get 2GB sticks of PC3200, but all are marked as registered EEC and have warnings saying they won't work in desktop PCs.

I'm fairly certain my motherboard supports registered memory, but I'm not completely sure if it'll support these or not.

I need more than 4, and the more the better. I have 16GB at work, and my home PC is driving me nuts!

    Can someone advise? Thanks.

As you can see from the ASUS site and the specs that board only supports 4GBs max

ASUS - Motherboards- ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe

Now second to that if you are running say Windows XP and its 32bit even if you could get more than 4GBs you still wouldn't have the benefits of using it all.

I'd say if you are that heavy into programming and you are running that intensive of software then its well past time for an upgrade!!

    Hi,

Thanks for the response. I'm a programmer for a living, but that's at work. I rarely do much at home, so I've just been living with it, but I'm starting to do more after hours now, at home, so you're right, I do need an upgrade.

    It's running 64 bit windows 7.

I'll price up a new motherboard, memory, and CPU, compared with the price of a ready built base unit and see what I should do...

    Thanks for your help.
