| PC doesnt start up after I increasing CPU FSB
System specs are as is:
abit k7t mobo (without raid)
amd tbird 1.3mhz
256 sd ram
old tnt pr 32mb
80gig hdd
16x lg dvd rom
The initial problem i had was that the system wasn't reading my processor speed properly. The bios read my cpu as 1ghz and i figured i could simply adjust the clock speeds to a 1.3ghz stock speed. But i guess i messed up and now i need help because the system doesnt even boot up anymore.
To adjust the cpu speed I went into the bios (SoftMenu III) and increased the CPU FSB/PCI Clock from 100/33mhz to 133/43mhz.
Ive never done any type of overclocking and now i'm worried i might of ruinde my brand new processor.
Also i forgot to mention. The system doesnt even load of the screen where i can reenter the bios, it just constantly beeps with no display on the screen.
plz help. thx in advance. |

Try starting it up while pressing the "insert" key at the same time---then set your frequency in the bios to 133/33 if you are able to... |

Sounds like you're overclocking your PCI bus a little too hard. Do exactly what TKOP said. If the insert key method doesn't work, reset your BIOS with the motherboard jumper/switch, and go back in and set it to 133/33.

Sounds as if you need to erase the changes you made to the CMOS settings.
Do this by looking in the manual for the Jumper that will clear the CMOS.
Generally, you need to disconnect the line cord, move the jumper to the discharge position for several seconds, then move it back.
Reconnect power and power on. Enter setup on the boot and find the "load system defaults" and do it, then reboot.
Good Luck,

okay i tried th insert method a third time and it finally booted up.
i went into bios again but i couldnt specifically set the clock speed to 133/33mhz. the only options are 100/33mhz and 101/33mhz. everything else after that is higher than 103/33mhz. 133 is only defined with 43mhz.
what does this all mean?
i went to the abit website to look at my mobo specs and it says
CPU
Supports AMD-K7 Athlon/Duron Socket A 200MHz FSB Processors
i have a 1.3 tbird, isnt that 266mhz fsb?

While in SoftmenuIII setup at the cpu fsb/pci tab you need to use the arrow up and down keys to scroll thru the selections---you WILL see the 133/33 ratio after scrolling, select it save your changes and re-boot...
The bios jumper is the CLOSEST one to the batt if you need to reset it...
The 1.33's are 266, the 1.3's are 200's... |

The Abit KT7 (not KT7A) will only go up to about 116Mhz FSB if you're lucky, the clock generator chip won't take any more than that. Voice of experience, here.
Set the FSB to 100Mhz, set the multiplier to 13, and that should give you the proper speed. Then you can up the FSB 1Mhz at a time until you reach instability, back off 1Mhz from your last stable frequency and you should be good to go
If the system won't boot with the 100 x 13 settings, then you have a 1.33Ghz T-bird, not a 1.3. In that case you will have to unlock the CPU multiplier and try the settings again.

alrite, the insert method doesnt work anymore, i set the multiplier to 12.5 (because it doesnt go up to 13) and the fsb to 10/133 and the result is 1.3ghz. But i think the system is stable under these settings. WinXP would run fine under no stress but once i started up WarCraft3 i got blue screened and the system shut down.
I then tried the resetting of the cmos and under clocked the processor to a 1ghz, the initial setting. Still winXP is booting up with problems.
Since then i was not able to get back into cmos neither by jumpers or insert at boot.
what does this mean? the computer beeps constantly at the same tone, ive checked many abit kt7 faq pages and I have tried almost everything. |

To get into the bios at boot, press delete right after you hear the system speaker give one beep.
This will bring up the bios menu screen.
To get the "insert" trick to work properly. Shut down the computer, unplug it for a minute or so. Plug it back in. While holding the insert key down press the power button. This will cause the motherboard to start up reset to failsafe defaults, and then prompt you to enter the bios and set the bios settings properly. |
