| AMD Introduces Faster CPUs Today http://www.siliconvalley.com/mld/sil...ey/3907207.htm http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/02q3/020821/index.html
AMD to Intel: Vengeance is mine! AMD debuted two new desktop microprocessors today, the Athlon XP 2400+ and 2600+, claiming they boast a performance that's roughly comparable to that of Intel's best chips. The Athlon XP 2600+ will run at 2.133GHz; the 2400+ will run at 2GHz. While Intel's fastest Pentium 4, at the moment, runs at a clock speed of 2.53 gigahertz, Tom's Hardware reports that AMD's Athlon XP 2600+ still manages to surpass it in benchmark tests in many disciplines. While the company's benchmark victory is clearly well deserved, it's likely to be short lived. Intel, which continues to see benefits of its move to the newer 0.13 micron manufacturing process, is expected to unveil 2.66 and 2.8 gigahertz Pentium 4 processors on Monday. "AMD has been playing leapfrog but they haven't been able to get ahead of Intel for quite a while," Insight 64 analyst Nathan Brookwood told the Mercury News. "Their advantage will only be a week long and then Intel is going to pop the 2.8 gigahertz. . . . Intel is demonstrating that production is in good shape."
OH BOY !
