| So Which Is The Better Newegg Deal on XP2000 CPU's
Newegg is offering the "AGOGA Stepping" numeration of the PC1900 at $105. This has a core that supposedly can be more easily overclocked to 2100 +. Prices: :
PC2000 OEM $95
PC1900 OEM 'AGOGA Stepping' $105
PC2000 Retail $107 [Includes 3 yr. warrantee]
Anyone ever OC a 'Stepping" CPU [there is a 1600 in the XP line] on either the T'Bird or Palomino lines ?
Are they as pliant to the Overclockers art as they are cracked up to be ?
Prices of the 2100 and 2200 are coming down.
At what point what you estimate the $105 Agoga become a 'bargain' given the risks, and X-tra expenses of OC'ing.
With good case cooling --which is a good investment across the Board-- a non-Oc'ed Retail PC2000 could probably do quite well with its OEM HSF. at $107. And the 3 yr. Warrantee should come in handy if it conks in 2 yrs. 11 months.
Don't get me wrong--I'm not criticising the Agoga or any other other OC venture. I'm just trying to get a theoretical handle on it.

Theoretical handle ... theoretical handle ... ¿tenir el sarten por el mango para decirlo...no? ... sorry MegalosSkylaki just listening to the radio in Spanish. It makes me think in Spanish.
Well the handle on the 'more expensive' AGOGA is a little hard to get a handle on. I wonder what it means? Stepping? My little Duron, CPUinfo tells me, has a 'stepping' of 1. What ever that means.
Anyway, the 2000 retail looks good - cheap fan and warranty. If you want more deluxe cooling, you'll have to go OEM and ditch the warranty. You won't be doing any "OCing" with a retail HSF.
Why don't you buy the AGOGA 'hot rod' and tell us all about it. You may even find out what it means in couple of years. Write that down. Doooog things to do, under dooog chores.
Oh, by the way, when your flying upside down like that, don't forget to push not pull on the stick. Hate to loose you.
PS: MeglosSkylaki, I see your not flying upside down anymore. That's an ominous change of avitar. What are you driving at?

The letters tell you the stepping.
The stepping indicates the "revisions" more or less.
The last palomino revision (that I know...and have) is AGOIA.
The AGOGA is an older stepping, and doesn't OC as well.
I run a chilled/water cooled system here. The 1600+ I'm using right now, is at 1906 MHz. The AGOIA 1700+ I ran before was at 1915 MHz.
181.53 x 10.5 for the 1600+, and 174.11 x 11 for the 1700+.
With my AGOGA's (I've had 3) the best OC was around 1800 MHz. |

Yeah, stepping indicate, in general, how well they OC. AROIA is the newest stepping, just above AGOIA. They are both great. The 2000+'s are generally AGOIA and AROIA now from newegg, but the 1600+'s get to as high as the 2000+'s in general, and they almost always comes in AGOIA and AROIA from newegg without worry. Don't get the 1900+ AGOGA, its not a good deal...and don't get the retail unless you are sure you will never OC it. If you OC technically you are not going to have that warranty anyways.
