Question
Yet another CPU cooling thread...

This is also kind of a follow-up on my previous postings....
(I have an Athlon XP 2000 on a ECS K7VTA3 board)

I installed a program called SpeedFan v4.06 (got it @ download.com) and this is what it gives me (rigth now):
Temp3: 42ºC
Temp2: 49ºC
Temp1: 37ºC

How do I figure out what are Temp1, 2 and 3? Are they CPU, board or case temperature?
Do they look ok?
After running RTC for a couple of hours I get these temps:
Temp3: 62ºC
Temp2: 56ºC
Temp1: 40ºC

I've put 3 additional fans inside the case blowing air behind/across the board and into the hard drives. Before doing this, temperatures reached 70º after a couple of hours of RTC.

I removed the front plastic cover of my case and saw some improvement but I wanna put it back on & maybe make bigger holes on it so there's better air flow to the fan on front.

Anyway if I put my hand on the back of the case I feel warm air coming out from the PS fan...Is that normal?? When I had a Pentium I i used to get cool air from the back & didn't have all the fans I have now inside the case...

Are you case fans arranged at all similar to the ones in this link?

Mmmmm! not exactly, but you just made me realize that only the one inside the PS is blowing air OUT..... maybe part of my problem is the same warm air recirculating over & over inside.....

Most definitely! Your front/side fan(s) should be sucking cool air in while your rear fan(s) should be exhaust fans--sucking the hot air out. Fix it up right and see what happens...

Quote:
We need to keep the airflow going in the same direction so if we add a fan in the front we would want it to blow inwards. If you add another fan (3rd) in the rear, have it blowing in the same direction as the power supply fan (usually outward). This will give you a nice flow of air across the motherboard, CPU and other components inside your computer.

Have you read the "How to configure SpeedFan" file that came with the program?

Allright....after a few mods. in my case here are the results:
CPU=48º
Case=34º
System=36º

I added another fan on the back, blowing air out...I think it made a difference....also cut some small holes on the front so that more air can get in....
I have a total of 8 fans inside my case.....(counting the CPU & video FANs)....
