Is there a easy way to overclock this setup?
I have been trying CHFSB and been unsuccessful. |

I don't own one of these, but a lot of folks around here do. Seems to be a favorite budget setup. Look through the hardware news section here. It seems I saw a post recently concerning an overclocking BIOS that somebody came up with recently for this board.

Can't you do some o/c from the BIOS ?
I really like the budget systems I'm building with the Biostars, they do offer this option.
The ECS systems I've built from this mobo are long gone, I seemingly remember this being an option. |

The K7S5A BIOS allow for only simple changes from 100/100 to 100/133 to 133/133 (CPU/RAM)...not very practical for OC.
CHFSB is a program that uses the FSB changes implemented in the OC BIOS. People I know have found it more effective to simply use the OC BIOS in their system.
You can get the OC BIOS for that board here: http://forum.ocworkbench.com/ocwbcgi...&f=27&t=003724
As well as some pretty good info on good techniquies for this particular board.
Hope this helps!

i recently built my first system with this board using an amd 1500+. tried to change the cpu/ram settings to 133/133 from 100/100. the system would turn on, but not post. only restarted after clearing the cmos with jumper. scared me enough not to try it again. anyone know why it did this?

The K7S5A isn't a good OCer but can be a stable cheap board. lobo_pac what kind of memory you running? |

lobo_pac,
The K7S5A has a grusome history of doing this with processors that run at 133MHz FSB. It is, of course, important to make sure that you are using DDR (or SDRAM) that is 133MHz, but this is not always the problem. There are many issues regarding power and heat that surround this board. Many of these are mostly to deal with "C-stepping" Thunderbird CPUs, but there are also a few XPs that have chronic issues with it.
The things everyone here will tell you to check are:
1) Your RAM type (as I discussed earlier).
2) That you have a high grade power supply in the system (300+ Watts and good brand).
3) Good system cooling?
Another issue that has been discussed many times it the ability of the chipset to cool. That cheap little heatsink is held on by simply doublestick tape (nothing of any thermal value). Many board's chipsets will over heat when placed in the 133/133 mode under the right conditions.
There is yet to find a 100% fix around this problem. Each board is picky in its own right. You just have to keep trying components sometimes until you find something your board likes!
All in all, I agree with MDS...If you want to truly OC, look at other products. However, my first post deals with better ways to go about it if you still insist on doing so with the ECS board
