| P II 350 on a P II 333 board?
I've got a cow in the making. The mobo will handle up to a PII 333, but the only CPU I've got available is a PII 350. Will the board accept this and clock as if it was a 333? |

i bet it would. just pop the cpu in and it should first underclock it to 333 (or something like that). but then you can get a bios update and that, i would imagine, would allow you to use a faster PII (a lot of boards work that way). one question tho: how do you set the clock multiplier, i.e. is it jumper based? |

it will work, just at a much slower speed. All intel CPU's are clock locked so you cant make it run at 333mhz.
the 350 is 3.5x100
the 333 is 5x66
so..from reading your post, it sounds like your board will only suppory 66mhz fsb. Thats kinda odd, i would check for a BIOS update or something. Anyways..the max speed you could make that 350 run on that board would be 233..and that dosent leave you much. The best thing would be either find a BIOS update or find a 333mhx chip, or find a new mobo..

Unfortunately, the most current BIOS is in it and the limit is 333. It uses 4 dip switches to set the CPU. The settings for a PII 333 and Celeron 333A are identical. The bus speed is limited to 66. I see no way to tweak that... |

My FIC VB-601-V PIII/500 mobo runs a PIII/667 no problems.

| Crazyray, is that an LX board? Have you tried SoftFSB to change the FSB to... say 75MHz? That would overclock your 333 to 375, but the 350 would still be underclocked at 263MHz .
My guess is that the best you can put in this board is a Celeron 533 (not the coppermine 533A). Hey... I think someone may be willing to sell a celeron 533 to you: http://www.techimo.com/forum/t34372.html |

I appreciate all the comments. I came up with a PII 300 I was able to swap out and that was enough (along with a bit more RAM) to create satisfactory performance from this old Premio 212B board. My niece is happy.
Now on to my next bit of folly... |
