| Processor/tmp concern with new computer, please!
Well I just put my new computer together a few days ago. This is the first time I've built one. I'm running an XP 2000 on a Soyo Dragon Lite Mobo with a Cooler Master heatsink, the heatsink is a model HC-001 w/ heat pipes, was recommended by a lot of people. Anyways I used the thermal paste that came with the heat sink, applied a translucent haze to the diode of the processor, rubbed a thin layer on the base of the heat sink an wiped it clean making sure it was clean of debris/fuzz. This is all in a aluminum case by the way. I powered it up an went into bios and watched it for about 3 hours, it never peaked over 46 degrees an usually dropping to 45 degrees every now an then. So I went an installed all my other equipment, closed up the case an let it run for about an hour an it ran about a degree hotter, usually between 46 an 47 degrees. I'm not a computer expert but my brother is running an XP 1800 an is getting about 40 degrees idling, he also used Artic Silver paste though. So my question is should I maybe take it apart, clean my processor an heat sink an retry it, maybe using a little bit thicker layer of paste on the processor? or is 46 degrees a typical XP 2000 temp? I'm also having him send me the rest of his Artic Silver paste in the mail so I'm thinking maybe I'll wait till I get it before I redo it. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly! appreciated.
Thanks!
one last minute edit: this is the link for heat sink im using at Tom's Hardware where they did a review of it http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/02q3...cooler-15.html

I wouldn't worry or bother taking it apart. Even if you had the same exact setup (case, fans, CPU...) you would probably never get the same temp, just because the sensor may not read the same.
I think you're concerned for nothing. |

I don't think theres anything wrong with me being concerned, ecspecially as a first time builder, I rather be concerned for nothing, then not be concerned an have my computer blow up! |

46 degrees is not a problem IMO too
My dual AMD 1800+ runs about 48C~50C all the time (also under 100% load all the time). Never been a problem. |

Just trying to put you at ease.
If your afraid it's going to "blow up", do you really think you should be messing with it?! |

I have the same heatsink.. and I run a 1600+ at 1800+ easy with that heat sink.. I run about 43 to 45C.. so u r about right.. I also use artic silver though.. =) u might get 2 or 3c cooler with artic silver..
and if your heat sink was as easy tp put on as mine.. it shouldn't be a problem if u want to use artic silver..
but in general u r fine.. the amd cpu can take being allot hotter..

thanks for the replies, yeah I was being a little over-concerned.
Guess I should go with: If it's not broken don't fix it. |
