Newbie Question, would like some expert advice.
Hey first time so here goes, i just brought a acorp dual processor motherboard for PIII 933 133mhz bus, i got everythign setup adn runing good but the only problem i seems to be getting is thta one of the processor is running at 65C' temp and the other is running at 35C'. i would like to know hwat is the avg temp and is 65 2 high. I'm not overclocking or anything it just that one runs at a higher temp for some reason. my only guess i that u know that little level that clamps down the cpu welll on that one i kinda broke the little plastic sticking out that holds it down. BUt since i clamped the heat sink and fan over it it shouldnt be a problem, thats the only think i could think of. They bout have the same exact heat sinks and stuff. Thanks for listening and for those that helped. ANd if any has aol or aim and would really like to help out mines is gotentaz187

well, first of all, are you sure that your cpu is securely locked in place and not at an angle? also what thermal compound are you using? 65C is definitely way too high, especially for a pIII. while it prolly won't damage it, it could seriously shorten the life of the cpu. you might look into getting another hsf with some good as3

Just as a shot in the dark, what hs/f are you using? Does it only have one clip? I don't know much about socket 370 cpu's, but I know they make hs/fs with a three clip set up. If you have 3 clips on the socket, maybe you could adapt another hs/f with this attachment. If your hs/f is not securely attatched, it would heat up.

From the sounds of it, since you snapped the little plastic tab the heatsink isn't being held down securely onto that CPU. I'm guessing the clip on the heatsink only clips over the middle tab, and that is the broken one?
I would recommend getting a new heatsink that clips over all 3 tabs on the socket. That way even with the middle tab missing it will still be held down firmly.

Well, here's what we got, I talked to him on AIM

It's a socket 370 processor. He is trying to take the HS off to reapply the thermal compound and make sure it is on correctly. The heat sinks do not feel different to the touch, heat wise, so i was thinking that it would either be a misseated heat sink or just a bad sensor on the board.
The broken plastic tab is the one that holds the socket arm down, not one that the heat sink attaches to, at least that was my understanding from talking to him.
Anyway, that is just to update and add a little more info.

If I read it right you snapped off the CPU locking handle on the sied of the socket? That might mean the pins are not quite connecting nicely with the processor scoket. Check to see if you can pull it off REALLY easily - if you can, then that's possibly the cause. Maybe the CPU is having to work extra hard to pump out info, as the pins are not quite connecting.
Is that possible, anyone?
That's my theory, anyway.
Cheers

What O.S. are you running? Do your applications support dual processors?
This is not my area, but it seems to me that if one CPU was just along for the ride, it would probably be much cooler.
Thoughts, corrections anyone?
