DDR mem burn-in for max OC:

I have a friend in Greece that subjects his ddr to this before continuing any overclocking venture, he has been pretty successful at maxing out P4 systems to date---

Do it when you first purchase your mem if you are maximizing performance---

(Remove heat spreaders for best result, *voiding warranty*)

Boot--goto bios, select default vmem w/highest timing

Run Super Pi (1mb) and Memtest and find/set max faultfree frequency

Restart, run Sandra mem burn @ high priority/high cpu load/100 times

Restart run 3DMark 2001/check all benchmarks except "image" run 10 times w/no titles at options

Reboot to bios and select highest Vmem voltage (2.9 max)

Reboot

Run Super Pi and Memtest again finding your 100% faultfree freq

reset and reboot

Now do it again BUT:

Run Sandra mem burn 100X and 3DMark 200X

Reboot to bios and pick slowest timings with the maximum voltage available (2.9--->NOT more then 3.2v if available)

Reboot and run 1MB Super Pi and Memtest again along w/200 cycles of 3DMark and Sandra mem burn finding max faultfree

Select your best mem timing with highest voltage then put your spreaders back on w/the clips+/frag tape/ASIII/AS adhesive/or AS3 etc and teeny drops of CA glue etc and go forth with your overclocking project

For example final result on Corsair XMS3200 C2--- when mem was unburnt in it ran at 434ddr and after burning in ran at 494ddr...

Takes awhile to go thru this procedure but it may be worth it---

thanks for the tip! Since I will be odering my new parts for my system (I plan on going with mushkin memory), I will have to give this a shot.

I am getting a gigabyte 8IEXP2 and P4 2.4. So this little tip should help since "unofficially", it supports DDR333.

BTW, are heat spreaders necessary for overclocking the mem?
