On my way to building a new computer and bought almost everything. I came to find out retail AMD fans aren't the best in the world. So I am now searching for a good QUITE fan/ heatsink combo for ~$30. I don't plan on overclocking to the max, if even at all, so I don't need some 100 dB fan that will keep it really cool. I would rather have a quiet fan the does pretty Good. I was looking at this Nexus KCZ-2700 fan that was just plain awsome, but you can only buy it in the Netherlands right now. I'm in California.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I need a fan before I can build this PC.
Thanks

I would recommend a Nimbus 2001, but they probably aren't out yet.
So, instead, I offer the Volcano 7+ |

I personally like copper. If you really want it quiet, get a nice heat sink, and then use an adapter on it to use a larger fan. This can also be cool if you have a window to use a clear/lighted fan on your heatsink. Generally that will be quieter than the standard fan. Also - be sure to use Artic Silver on it - that will help alot as well. |

I am disappointed with the V7+. It doesn't keep my 2100+ as cool as another member's 6Cu keeps his. My next cooler will probably be a heat piper. |

Have you looked into a Zalman heatsink cooler?

Wow! I love this Coolmast HHC-L61. I'm going to buy it. I could only find it for $37.00, but that will have to do.
If I buy this fan, do I need to buy a shim like these copper ones or these purple ones or even these? There are so many, do I even need them with this fan setup?
I haven't said it yet, but all this is for my Athlon XP 2200+

Temp NEVER goes over 41°C and you cant even hear that I turned the computer on, Unlike the swiftec I had on before which was 43db. I highly recomend this no matter what THG says.

I still don't know if I need a shim with this Coolermaster HHC-L61, but I will buy one anyway just to be safe. Someone said a shim helps with heavy heatsinks. I don't know which of the 1,000 shims out there I should buy. Maybe I will just guess. |
