HT for me isn't a necessity, but it is necessary in order to push the chip faster and faster.

the question is, what is AMD's role in the war? as far as i'm conserned, amd lags by about 6 months. it is nice see that intel's road map keeps improving every 2 months, but the price needs to be competitive. ther's no way in hell i'm gonna spend a thousand dollars for a processor. amd needs to release a 166fsb or a 200fsb chip asap.

i don't remember running any of my P4 A/B chips at stock. it's always been at DDR400 (200fsb/800mhz). of couse the memory deviders have alot to do with this. i'm getting the P4PEA+ tomorrow, with 1/3 memory deviders, i should be able to see 800mhz at 150fsb (1/3) on my 2.66B P4 .

I think the barton will have a 400mhz.(200 double-pumped).

Let's hope so. The Barton chips are currently selling as 333 FSB chips, but they plan to jump to 400MHz.

If they do, that will push the Hammer to release as such (it would be dumb to take a step back), because right now they're still a little wavery on which to go with (most spec sheets still read Hammers as 333 FSB Chips).

AMD is lagging behind a bit currently as nomadman said.. just hope AMD can catch up or else the darn Intel prices are gonna like no tomorrow.. *Darn greedy bastards*

The problem is that the 64-bit Hammers might not be as fast as it seems.. I read a few articles about how 64-bit may be a tad slower compared to 32-bit processors (when running 32-bit programs of course). Hmm.. hope the Hammer can pull through though, so us consumers can see good prices..

I heard that the hammer 64 performs like 15% better than it's 32bit counter part in 32bit apps and like 30% better on 64bit apps.
