brother mfc and xp pro???

hey everyone,

problems with installing drivers for brother 5100c mfc into xp professional.

as of now every function works fine except for the scan feature. i went to brothers website and found instructions as to uninstalling old oem files, drivers, hardware, etc. followed by downloading updates/new supposedly functional drivers.

everything goes fine until the point after ive deleted and uninstalled everything im supposd to. after this im supposed to go to device manager and scan for new hardware under action in the taskbar. for some odd reason there isnt anything under action in the taskbar except for "help". what i can do is scan for hardware changes if i right click on any of the devices listed. when i do this windows finds the printer but doesnt give me the option of installing from a specific location(like im supposed to).

windows just goes ahead and automatically starts installing the same drivers and files i just spent 10-15 minutes deleting/uninstalling.

is there any way i can install the updated drivers manually or get to the found new hardware screen where i can choose to install form a specific location?

please help. very frustrated. thanks
