What are the main differences in Celeron, Duron, AMD, P4 and XEON -

I guess in simple terms, the Celeron is the "value" chip of Pentiums. It usually just has a smaller on-die cache (less memory is accessed on the chip itself) and therefore, is a little slower.
The Duron is pretty much the same way I do believe, compared to it's big brother the Athlon T-Bird/XP. Both are from AMD.
The XEON, I believe, just has an outrageous amount of on-die cache and are therefore is used primarily for servers and workstations. IMO, a waste of $$$. |

AMD is the company that makes Athlon and Duron. GZ, I'm sure you mean P4 and Athlon in the P&P category above.  |

oh, ok - Thanks - but if you could get a P4 1.8 ghz or a XEON 1.8 ghz for the same $, whih would be better for a performance system, not a server

I'd probably still just get the plain 'ol P4 without the XEONage. |
