What a decision---which case? the Vapochill (NEW Vapo test here: http://www.overclockers.com.au/article.php?id=118945 ) or Prometia?
Prometia cools more efficiently and the cooling head is easier to mount, Vapo physically looks better tho if thats a concern (some gut the Prometia and stuff it in a Lian-Li case) Vapo may come to you alittle cheaper---m/b will be personal preference since Asus, Abit, Gigabyte, Aopen etc all have very similar offerings with AGP8, sata, mem devisors, pci lock, voltage options, the brand and chipset may be hard to decide upon---lots of reading will be involved, you will need an OS that provides hyperthreading (XP Pro?) EL DDR would probably be my choice XMS or OCZ 3500 tests tops (3700 is on the horizon)
Decisions decisions decisions---
JCviggins of XtremeSystems.org is the only one I know with a 3.06 Prom setup, he has it on an 845e chipset (w/ddr mem) and a 9700 pro---successfully overclocked to 4151 and gets 22103 3D marks---
Im using an Abit IT7Max with a 2.4 at 2995 with OCZ3500 and a oc'd Ti4600---good enough for my casual gamer...
Should be a fun project once you figure out all the correct pieces to toss together, and THAT will be the hardest part! :-) |
