The maximum temp of most any AMD CPU is 90C°. Although most tend to have problems at 60C° and above.

Processor Electrical Specifications (has max temp, too): http://users.erols.com/chare/elec.htm
AMD states a max die temp of 90C for the athlons. I would start getting nervous if it's approaching 60C. With good cooling, you can get into the 30-40C range. |

I bought a new Coolmaster HCC something for about $40. I bought it because it is SUPER quiet and is supposed to provide good cooling too. In Windows the little Soyo hardware monitor report the CPU temp as 46 idle and after 6 hours of gaming 54. Does that seem a little high? The system seems to run perfectly, but it was first time putting Heatsink goo stuff on, so maybe I messed something up. Normal or to high?

Go to the Ask AMD page, click on processors. On the following page, at the top right, under "Top 10 Solutions" is a link showing the operating temps of the XP processors. |

I have my XP1900+ to shut down at 60C. This evening I've been capturing streaming audio and burning to CDR. My CPU is at 38C. I use an all copper SK6 (Thermal rite? something like that) with quiet 5000RPM Sunon fan. I always use either all copper heatsinks or at least copper insert heatsinks like Taisol puts out.
Oh, and good case ventilation: full size tower with intake and exhaust Panaflo Whisper fans (on lo speed).
Good luck.
