I want to order a system from Cyberpower inc with a Gigabyte 7vax-p via kt-400 mobo and 512 mb of pc 3200 400mhz ddr memory.
I want to use the xp2400 266fsb 2.0 GHz processor.
My quetion is do I need the xp2600 2.08 GHz 333fsb to properly use the capabilities of the memory and the motherboard?
The system will be used for digital video and will be configured with 2 hd's raid 0. Can the xp2400's fsb be increased to 333
or even 400? I have never done any overclocking.

I'd think that proccesor you could do 333 easy and probably 400.

The 2400 is based on the same core as the 2600. |

Yeah, but you might need to jam up the voltage if it was factory rated at 266 fsb.
If you got it to 333ddr, (166mhz fsb) then you would get 2.49ghz which would be a blast.

Lucky chip, quality parts and very good cooling (decent HS & airflow) are the keys for reaching a sucessful OCing.
I doubt that a 266FSB chip could reach 333FSB without unlocking the multiplier, though.... |

You wouldn't need to OC it anyway unless you were adament about running the CPU at 333fsb, you could probally run the ram at 166 while the fsb runs at 133. |

Yeah, I think you'd definitely have to unlock the multiplier. And I wouldn't recommend that for just anyone. It's not as easy as they make it look on those web sites! You may need to water cool the CPU and Northbridge, also. So, are you sure you want to get into all that?! It looks like we're neighbors. I'm in Dania Beach. Welcome to TechIMO. |

Yeah I forgot to mention that you would probably need to unlock the multiplier because if he tries to crank it up to a 400mhz. fsb he'd be running at 3.1ghz. |
