| Help with AMD 2400+ -OEM (Help me buy)
I have no idea about computer hardware so help me learn. AMD Athlon XP 2400+ -OEM
I plan on getting that processer for my new computer i plan to build, so...
1) Any better prices then that? I'll look at my local store when ads come out tomorrow.
2) What motherboard ATX (model and maker) should i get that works good with this? 1AGP, 5PCI (Don't really need onboard audio/video but ok if can be diabled), Onboard raid is no...
3) What is a good fan/heatsink for this? I have heard Volcanos are good, but what model? If not valcano, then what?
4) What powersupply won't waste my system? I'm thinking 400Mhz to be safe or so.
How did you choose these? I want to know what to look for so i can look for them on my own if needed
Edit just found this for 5$ cheaper, anyone know about this company? http://www.googlegear.com/jsp/Produc...ductCode=80166

What about this case? It looks nice to me, has a window and it has nice spacer + 3 fans, front USB and firewire, would i need a firewire card for it?
It has 4 fans, but would it be quiet? I like to leave my computer on while i sleep...
-EDIT Also found this (Whats the difference?) It's cheaper and comes with power supply (all i could see was no firewire)

Hmm, that might be a good idea to save me money..
What can 330 Mhz do for me besides save me 100 bucks
But i do like having 2.0Ghz
AMD ATHLON XP 2100+/266 FSB PROCESSOR CPU - OEM for 95$
Or for 7$ more retail..

Well, I notice no difference operating my Duron 1.0ghz builds compared to the 1700+ XP or the Celeron 1700mhz units.
Seriously, unless you're planning on doing Video Editing or some other very heavy load process, the super fast machines are of no benefit.
[IMHO]

That one is OEM [30 day warranty] No Cooling Fan & Heat Sink
The ones I linked ya to are "Retail"
3-yr warranty and includes a Heat Sink & Fan
Forget overclocking for now, you may get items that allow it, but you need to crawl before worrying about running.
Most motherboards today have overclockng built into the BIOS, no more jumpers being set with tweezers and a magnifying glass while using a calculator to figure out the correct settings. |

Well if i was to get the Athlon 2000+ (which i might go ahead an do)
What kind of mother board would i have to get that fits the specs i needed so i can upgrade my chip at a later time (like 2500+ or so)
So i'm looking for:
AMD MB (ATX)
Works with 2000+ (and will allow me to upgrade at a later time to something higher if needed)
DDR 2100 (or more) (2-3 slots) allows me to put 2 512 DDR sticks in (I will put 1 for now maybe 256 later on if needed, but to be safe)
Opinional onboard sound/video/lan (but can be turned off)
1AGP slot 5PCI
No Raid
Also why is DDR is pricey?! I might just get the 2100 kind http://www.crucial.com/store/listMod...DIMM&submit=Go
What's the diff between all the 256MB ram

Asus A7V8X or Asus A7N8X. these 2 boards are great. packed with features and easy OC'ers and both boards accept DDR 2100 and DDR2700 and not to mention DDR3200.
The A7N8X says it accepts up to 2.8 ghz> Since AMD has not reached this plateu I would assume that you could use it for quite some time. Very upgradable.
Both of these boards come with or without raid.
The A7N8X Delux comes with vid and sound the non delux just has sound
The A7V8X has 2 versions one with raid one without neither have Video both have sound.
Hope this helps some
