Every time I do a build for cheap, I price out systems, naturally starting with processor and motherboard. And the mobo has to support at least DDR 266.
So is it any wonder that I have built a lot of Athlon XP 1700+ systems lately? And boy, they sure do stay cool
For not having an advertisement campaign, AMD is doing a good job. How many of us have advertised for them in this thread? That's how good they are. | |

I am doing this one on a budget so my nforce2 doesn't get jealous.Microcenter has Shuttle AK32A boards and Athlon XP1800+ both for 129.99. |

Have you ever seen an advertisement of AMD? I haven't.
| i have prolly 4 or 5 years ago i remember AMD airing commercials for the k6-2s, which started the push for 3dnow.
The battle between who is the best will keep going back and forth for a long time. right now intel has the lead, but then again AMD had the lead for quite a while. so it's not who has the fastest processor at the moment, because 6 months down the line that won't mean jack. I voted AMD not because of their performace versus Intel, because both procs are fast. I voted AMD because i just like the company and their procs. they have enabled me to get high performance systems for a decent price, something intel couldn't have done for me. i've owned AMD systems ever since i built my first system in '98 i think using a k6-2 400. |

I believe heat is the major turn off for AMD. Atleast that's what people believe and vote against AMD for.
My favorite: AMD.

Hmm, it seems very pro AMD.. interesting..
Actually, i think pee-4's are better. They o/c so f'n hard. on FACTORY air cooling, with a 500mhz o/c i believe a p4 would be cooler than an xp+ at stock speed..
That being said, im considering making a new pc, and i would put either a 2500+ Barton, or 2600+ in it.. because AMD are so much cheaper.
So.. for value, AMD. but, if you were trying to build the fastest PC, theres no comparison, you'd go pentium 4..
the early p4's, like the 1.5ghz sucked badly. but now they are mean.. 3ghz with 800fsb and HT.. come on.. |

Based on what I've read and saw, benchmarks for AMD beat Intel when it comes to productivity, and when it comes to gaming Intel holds a slight lead. So basically, they're equal in some instances, and each CPU does beat each other in others.. but all in all they are fairly equal performance wise, in my opinion.. so the question really is, do I want to save money? If yes, then you go with AMD

This is the stupidest post I have ever read, its just like gaming systems, everyone takes up for what they own. All this AMD craze is immature, Of course AMD is great, I own a P4 I am very happy with it. but I wont sit here and bash AMD.

For a better Multi tasking CPU pay the extra money for the P4. |
