The AMD chips are far more capible then Intel Clock for Clock. This alone proves which chip is of better design. | Except that the P4 was designed to achieve performance at high clockspeeds. Last time I checked (which was, admittedly, a while ago), the fastest P4 was still faster than the fastest Athlon, so it would seem that their design decisions paid off, no? I don't think it's quite as clear-cut as "AMD chips have a better design than Intel chips, period". |

LOL . I personally like the amd's always have. Intel kinda interests me with the 3.06 chips but I donno. As for the laptops discussion the new apple laptops sure look sweet with the 17 inches of divine screen. |

I think that if AMD were smart, theyd purchase a 30 second time spot in the superbowl commercial wave. They would make up the funniest damn commercial you ever saw of a blue man getting beaten to death by an amd dude, and then after all of the histarical laughter, it just popped up AMD is faster and cheaper than intel, and showed your wallet on fire. the end. [or something to that effect]
AMD would instantly recieve hundreds of thousands of sales directly linked to that, because the half average user would have just been informed of what is the best, and then they'd go to best buy and throw their weight around the counter.
Just a million dollar commercial, thats all it would take... |

Intel for laptops?
Why oh why???
I saw a nice review of a mobile athlon powered notebook, and they were especially impressed with AMD's powernow over Intel's speedstep.
Powernow can drop a 2000+ to 533 mhz in low points of usage, and according to their benchmarks, unless you super agressive power saving mode, it doesn't significantly affect any benchmarks. |

Advanced Micro Devices all the way. Gotta go with DPA on this. A thirty second spot. But instead of the blue guy getting beat up by one amd guy I offer a better scenerio. Two teams on the feild one blue and the other green.(long over head shot of the stadium) Green team scores first 1.0 to nill. (we notice at this point the blue fan is in the wrong part of the stadium and is surrounded by Green fans, better yet swimming in a sea of green)Then some great play action on the field. (rain, mud, turnovers, interseptions)Monsterous play action like in the Last Boyscout(opening scenes minus psycho with gun), Remember the Titans(making it to the play offs), and The longest Yard(last game). Score gets tied 1.0 to 1.0 then 1.0 to 2.0 then 2.0 to 2.0, finally after some more great play the blue team takes the lead 2.0 to 3.0 at this point the blue fan happy as can be starts cheering.(he is flailing all about throwing his hands up, its great real excitment can be felt) At this point which the camera is zoomed in on him it draws back and we see him all alone still flailing with all the green fans sitting quitely looking at him.(then it dawns on blue fan he is in bad company) Cut scene, to "AMD is Better" and hear muffled sounds of blue guy getting the pummeled.
IMO

i think both companies make good chips. amd offers a very attractive power:buck ratio but intel has rapidly closed the gap on this one.
not all intel chips are bad...the xeons are great chips. the p4's really started out as crap, but the recent versions are very good.
i really am anxious to see the hammer aka athlon64 cpu. should be interesting... |
