CPU Benchmark Proggy?

Wondered what you use? and why?

Also I am looking for suggestions.
For a benchmark that can be run from floppy or cd.
In otherwords: doesn't need to be installed, is independent of OS.

Preferably free or not too pricey.

I have one here called 'Microscope' that has a good reputation.
But i think my version might be outdated for newer higher speeds.

Wanted your thoughts.

ChrsR.

Yes, there is a slovenly hamster here, about to get a cattle prod, right in the a..

I use pcmark2002 from futuremark.com (those that make 3dmark)
and sandra developed by sisoft. Sandra would be my preferred choice. Both are free to download. both need to be installed but are small.

PCMARK 2002 and SiSoft Sandra 2003....mainly, there are others though...many others....I use these two mainly to compare to reviewers using the same software....they tend to be the most popular and are well used in most every CPU review.

Unfortunatley, both of these run under windows.
I sometimes use the dnetc client as that has a set of benchmarks you can run, is available for almost any OS, and doesn't need to be installed.
The drawback is it isn't very versatile (you can't do much with it.)
