I been running for a since sat night on this PC, and my comp has restarted twice for no reason, so i want to make sure i'm safe (read below).
I am running my XP2100Tbred to XP2700 Speeds on my Epox8RDA+ on factory settings but i have the FSB up to 166 instead of 133, is this safe? Do i need to up the voltage or anything or what, i'm new to this.
I'm sure my cooling is fine, SLK-800 and SmartFan2 @ 41C full load. |

If it's restarting by itself then it's obviously not stable, is it? That's a vital rule of overclocking, make sure it's stable. |

You need a voltage increase for CPU to gain stability and stop the random reboots ...
It is safe if you stayed on low steps (no sudden high voltage increase) just as minimum as possible ...
Your CPU temp is more than good .. so you shouldn`t worry bout heat problems at this time ... just take a look at the temp from time to time and set an alarm to warn you when the temp reaches a certain level. |

So how much should i increase the voltage to? And what exactly is CPU voltage?
I OCed it once i built my CPU... I'm going to clock it down back to normal for a few days to see if it is the CPU or something else..
Like i said, only happened two times when i was doing something intensive, then when i clicked a link..

It sounds like if your CPU is in need of more voltage or your PSU can`t keep 100% feeding your system demands.
Voltage is the power that CPU needs to operate and its provided by the PSU through the MoBo. When you run your CPU over the default speed, then the voltage might not be enough to keep the CPU stable with such and increase of speed.
AMD XP Plomino`s voltage is 1.75v
AMD XP TB`s voltage is 1.50v ~ 1.65v
You need to increase by a very small steps, like from 1.65v (default) to 1.66 and test your systems stability (run 3DM03 or SiSoft Sandra stress test a few loops) ..
Then, if not stable, increase to 1.67v and *test* .. and so on
Be careful, not to do big jumps or you might fry your CPU .. stay in small steps and test.
PS. keep an eye on the CPU temp after you test. |

Thanks, i have a 450W PSU, so i'm sure it's not that.
Also, what in sandra should i use to test it and what should i look for? |

CPU Arithmetic Bench
CPU Multimedia Bench
These are the Sandra modules you should run. Another good sign of stability is running 3DMark in a loop. |

I ran 3Dmark, but all it does is benchmark your video card...
I ran both in sandra, what now? What should i look for?

Well, 3DMArk 2001 stresses the entire system and is more of an entire system benchmark. It will stress the processor and the video card heavily. That's why a system with a kicking video card, such as mine gets a 7500, when a system with the same setup and a 2200+ gets over 10,000 in scores.
I don't know about 3DMark 2003. I have heard 2003 is purely video. I haven't tried it yet. |
