what is the multiplier locked at? just adjust the fsb so that:
(fsb)x(multiplier)=1.73ghz
xp 2100+ runs at 1.73ghz
then it will show up correctly in windows
i believe if you make the fsb 133 it will be correct |

I know at least some of them come factory unlocked. If you don't mind pulling the CPU, take it and look at the L1 bridges. If those have the little laser cuts it's locked. If the L1 bridges are NOT cut, then it's most likely unlocked, even though the bridges aren't connected.
That's the way my 1700+ came, and it's unlocked. |

I believe they had no lines between them.. And the major bridges had black surroundings..
Removing my heatsink is my worst nightmare. Mostly the fact i don't know how to clean it off, ect..
Plus, i don't care about mutipliers, since i can just up the FSB, right? And i won't be overclocking it over this 2.1Ghz i got it at, even though i could handle it... |

One other question... what multiplier do you have it set at, and what multipliers were you trying that put it down to 1500+ speed?
Edit: The reason I ask this is because I can set the multiplier for my 1700+ anywhere from 5 to 12.5, but if I go up to 13 it drops my CPU to 11x 100 for 1100MHz, regardless of the FSB speed I have set. 11 is the default multipler for my CPU by the way. So my guess is, you're trying to set a multiplier that's out of it's range, and so it drops it back to the default multiplier (which I'm pretty sure is 13) and drops the FSB to 100, thus giving you the 1500+ speed. I don't know what the actual MHz is of the 1500+ so I can't say for sure.

I have it on default, and i was trying anything above 13 (default)
14 x 166 ect, any time even if i set it to 25, still goes down to 1500 |

Yep. Try a multiplier lower than 13 and see what you get. My guess is those will work just fine. |
