well, i know that, with the B ) there was a ninth layer to the core added, and there was much disappointment after the A came out, in terms of expectations in the performance department.

when the Bs came out, many of the probs of the A went away ( heat, limited OCability, etc. ). the As would never have been able to reach the default ( and OCed ) speeds the Bs reach.

The B version is faster and more overclockable.

Here's a good link on the subject: http://www.overclockers.com/tips00173/

Palmino Cores are old
Throughbred cores are smaller cooler newer
Throughbred A cores are chips up to 2400+
Throughbred B cores are 2400+ chips and higher.

Palimoni cores are cheaper but run worse, and they are in the lowest XP chips up to 2200+ i think. T-Bred chips are the newest ones but they make older chips using them. I think you can find 1800+'s with T-Bred in them. The T-Bred B's are the exact same core except 66mhz or so faster. All 2400+ and greater use the T-Bred B.

To see if you have a Palamino or T-Bred see if the die (the little black square on the CPU) is either square, which is palamino, or rectangle, which means T-Bred.

Hpe I helped , and hope i got the facts straight.

Not all of them joker. They make TBred B cores much slower than 2400+. Like my 1700+ for instance. I'm not sure how you can tell the difference if they don't specifiy.

According to the information in this post by a very wise and awsome man, only 2400+ and greater are T-Bred Rev B's.

That is wrong. There are 1700+, 1800+, 2100+, 2400+, 2600+, 2700+ and 2800+ TBred "B"'s. Apparently, there may even be a 2000+ "B", unless newegg goofed in their posting a week or so ago.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THIS is how you tell the difference between an "A" Tbred, and a "B" Tbred.

Look at the last letter of the stepping code.

If it ends in an "A", it is an "A" TBred.
If it ends in a "B", it is a " TbredB"

For instance, I'm looking at a Tbred sitting directly in front of me ( it's waiting on a *&^*&^*&^ motherboard ).

The two "small print" lines on the black "ID tag" say:

AXDA2100DUTC3 9768407260906
AIUHB 0303VPMW

The part to look at is the "AIUHB". That is the stepping code.
The fifth letter tells whether it is an A, or a B.

AIUHB

By the way, the 4 #s after the stepping code tell the week and year of manufacture; in this case the third week of '03.

An "A" Tbred will have an A as it's fifth letter of the stepping code.

Here are some stepping codes for "A" Tbreds:
AIRCA
AIRDA
AIRGA
RIRGA
RIWGA
AIUGA
AJUGA

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------Hope this helps.
