| XP1700+ shows up as 1100...huh!??!?!
Need some help on troubleshooting a problem with my brother's new system...for some reason his XP1700+ shows up as 1100. According to him all the motherboard settings are on default and he hasn't done much else other then hook the system up and get it running.
Here's the specs:
XP 1700+ on Epox 8RDA+
256mb of 2700 (crucial)
Any ideas as to why this would show up as 1100? Or suggestions to try? |

You need to change the FSB to 133 in order to get it to detect XP1700. |

your FSB must be at 100 mhz instead of 133... the math works out.. 1100mhz * 1.33 = the 1470mhz of a 1700+ |

<nods> ok cool...I'll pass this information along to my brother and hopefully this will clear things up.
Thanks for such fast responses!

Yup. That's what the problem was. He changed the fsb in the cmos setup to be 133 and now it shows up correctly.
Thanks again! |

oh hey, what he needs to do is change the fsb from 100...
Yeah, also sometimes computers go really flaky after changing the FSB via the bois. If you get weird errors switch the ram to another slot (or if the mobo has it set the FSB to 133 via the jumper). It sounds weird, but that exact scenario has played out to many times, and switching the ram usually fixes instability caused by switching the FSB to 133, though it should be there any way...
Any way, you can feel good about this error, cause since we all know it it means we've ALL had it happen! lol |

Ya...and I'll be building a duplicate of his new system for myself in a few days. Got a case coming in this wed or thurs and then I'll be set...not sure if I can wait *THAT* long though. lol.
But ya...if my XP 1700+ shows up as 1100...I'll know what the problem is! |
