| CPU Upgrade? Will it work?
I have an old HP Pavilion XE748 that has a 700mhz Celly in it. I know the mobo in it is a cheap modified Asus CUW-AM. It has the Intel 810 chipset in it if that helps. I am wondering if it will run the new 1.3ghz Celly with a 100mhz FSB. Intel says that the 810 chipset works with the new 100mhz bus speed. So I dunno. |

As long as you don't grab a P4-based Celeron, I believe you'll be fine. |

No, it's not P4 based because Intel makes the Celeron's up to 1.4ghz as socket 370. Then anything higher than 1.4ghz is Socket 478. I am assuming that is what you mean by P4 based, right? |

If you can get the mboard running at 100 MHz, this would be well worth your while. The C-700 runs on a 66MHx bus, I think. |

Yeah, that is right. The 700mhz does run on 66mhz bus. That is the only reason why I was asking because I didn't know if it would work with the 100mhz bus speed. I hope that it does work because that will definetely make that computer nice. To go from 128mb PC133 to 512mb PC133. Then from 1mb built-in gpx to an ATI Radeon 7000 64mb DDR. Those are already done. Then from a 700mhz Celly to a 1.3ghz Celly. That will be a good upgrade. |

Yes, I think the Celeron 800 and above run on a 100MHz bus. Of course, you could run, say, a 1.2GHz on a 66MHx bus but it will run at 1.2 x 0.66 = 800MHz, not much help. The key would be if you can get the motherboard to run at 100 MHz. |

Aren't the 1.3Ghz cellys Tualatin cores? If so then an adapter would be needed. |

How would you tell if it is or not? I mean I have the proc. here at my house. This proc. is for a friend. I wanted to know if it would work before I went over there and put it in the computer. |

If this helps, it is an FC-PGA2 and I just found out that the 700mhz Celly is an FC-PGA. So would I have to get an adapter or something? If so where can I get one from?

Found one doing a google search that led me to pricewatch. wwwPackage2you.com has a converter for $10.90+shipping. Lists it for $15.99 shipped from pricewatch. Package2you has a resellerrating of 7.13 six months and a lifetime of 6.97. Sounds like a good retailer and the price isn't too high. You will need this. Hope this helps. |
